Rusty Garrett here with the weekend outlook:
Typical July weather Saturday and Sunday. Highs both days near 100° degrees. Feeling more like 101° to 104° thanks to humidity!
(May 28, 2006)--Decades-old documents at Texas Tech University's Vietnam Center contain dozens of clues about prisoners of war and others who went missing in action in Southeast Asia.
After long being out of sight, North Vietnamese intelligence documents owned by the U.S. government are being featured on the center's Virtual Vietnam Archive.
Deputy Assistant Defense Secretary Robert Newberry recently wrote to Vietnam Center director James Reckner.
Newberry told him POW/MIA analysts have identified 41 leads from the archives.
More than 1,800 Americans remain missing from the Vietnam War.
Their families are excited about the possibility of new clues coming from the archives.
Only about five percent of the collection is online so far.
And despite its importance, the documents are going online more slowly than before because of a dwindling funding.
