(May 30, 2006)—A Waco city maintenance worker was attacked by a swarm of aggressive bees Tuesday morning as he mowed a vacant lot in the 1500 block of Herring Avenue.

The bees then swarmed the beekeeper who was called to deal with the hive inside a tree on the lot, but he was wearing protective gear and wasn’t injured.

Evidently the vibration caused by the mower excited the bees, which stung the worker about 40 times.

An employee at a nearby business tossed a bucket of water on the worker in an attempt to drive the bees away.

The man was taken to the city’s employee health department where 38 stingers were removed. He then went to his private physician to be checked out, but did not require hospital treatment.
