Fugitive Arrested In Texas After 23 Years On The Run Save Email Print

A | A | A

(September 22, 2008)—A man wanted in a 1985 shooting death in Montana has been arrested in Texas after 23 years on the run.

Robert Chickene, who was arrested near San Antonio, was wanted in the 1985 shooting death of his girlfriend, Paula Rodriguez, near Missoula, Mont.

Missoula police say Chickene had been living under a false identity because of other run-ins with the law.

Detectives say when Rodriguez found out about his criminal history, she threatened to expose him.

A police officer found her body wrapped in a tarp in a creek west of Missoula in November 1985.

Chickene was recently featured on the television show "America's Most Wanted."

He was arrested Thursday after police were sent to investigate drug use at a trailer park near San Antonio.

Why did it take so long for this murderer to be taken into custody? Surely this man has been working using someone's social security number and driving all these years. Thank God for great police work by SAPD. My hat is off to those responsible for getting this man off the streets.

Two cheers for the cops! I would say three, but it took them 23 years...what were they doing all that time? If it had been a man shooting some politician or his kin they would have found him in short order I bet! Now, unfortunately, this scum will be prosecuted, put on death row (or worse yet life), givenm umpteen retrials and reviews of sentences, and live a long time at taxpayer expenses. Too bad he didn't "try to escape" when they found him.....
