(September 25, 2008)—Three sisters have pleaded guilty to cocaine charges in South Texas a week after their mother entered a guilty plea in the same drug distribution case.
According to the U.S. Attorney's Office, Laura Trevino pleaded guilty to conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute cocaine and Adriana and Evelia Trevino pleaded guilty to possession with intent to distribute cocaine Thursday in federal court in Brownsville.
On June 18, the sisters and their mother, Maria Guadalupe Trevino-Venegas, were stopped crossing into the United States at the Brownsville Port of Entry from Matamoros, Mexico.
During a close inspection of their Mercedes, the mother and two of the sisters attempted to run back into Mexico, but were detained on the bridge.
Each had more than seven pounds of cocaine strapped to her body.
All four are scheduled for sentencing on Jan. 12.
