One Injured When Van Slams Into Rear Of Stopped 18-Wheeler Save Email Print

(September 29, 2008)—One man was taken to Coryell Memorial Hospital in Gatesville late Monday morning after the van he was driving slammed into an 18-wheeler that was stopped on the shoulder of U.S. Highway 84.

The accident happened just after 11 a.m. near the Coryell-McLennan County line in the vicinity of the Oglesby cutoff.

The driver of the 18-wheeler told News Ten he had pulled off onto the shoulder of the highway to check a map when the eastbound van crashed into the rear of the trailer.

The van driver, whose name was not immediately available, was able to walk away from the wreckage of the vehicle, but was taken to the hospital to be checked out.

The driver of the 18-wheeler, who earlier had dropped off a load at Fort Hood, was not injured.

No one else was in the van.

MOTHER OF THREE--- ITS SAYS THE RIG WAS STOPPED. HOW COULD HE BE FOLLOWING TO CLOSE?

Posted by: Mother of Three Location: Temple on Sep 30, 2008 at 03:54 PM
Sounds like he was following too closely to me. But my husband drives a truck so maybe I'm biased. I've been with him and seen cars do some pretty stupid things sometimes, lol!!! Everyone makes mistakes though, I guess that's why they call them accidents. :)

BONEHEAD... i'm with roy there....how could a person not see a rig....and then someone wants to say that truck drivers don't look

Like the person below stated, either he was texting or talking on the cell. Just glad no one was seriously injured, let alone killed.
