(October 2, 2008)--James Byron Montgomery, 53, of Moody was indicted Wednesday on charges of bigamy, after marrying his girlfriend Tiffani in the Little White Wedding Chapel in Las Vegas, without first divorcing his wife, Rebecca Montgomery back in Texas.

McLennan County Justice of the Peace Kristi DeCluitt’s office said that according the arrest affidavit, Rebecca Montgomery notified local law enforcement officers of the marriage.

Investigators obtained a marriage certificate for Tiffani and Montgomery from Clark County, Nev.

Montgomery told News 10 that while he knew it was against the law to marry someone while already married, he didn't realize that marriage ceremonies conducted in Las Vegas were "real" or legally binding.

He said that had he known the repercussions, he would not have gone through with the Las Vegas marriage on May 25, 2007.

Montgomery said he has been married to three different women since 1980.

Guess "what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas" isn't working for this guy.

Posted by: absurd Location: Waco on Oct 2, 2008 at 11:33 PM
Do we really need to spend our tax money on this guy? Gee, we can put him in prison and support him for 10 years at $40,000. per year. Aren't there more serious matters that we should concentrate on?

Posted by: Jimmy Location: Belton on Oct 2, 2008 at 10:14 PM
Why would you want a second wife? Heck, one is more than enough. :-)

Posted by: Jim Location: Valley Mills on Oct 2, 2008 at 05:29 PM
He's out of work, can't afford an attorney for a divorce, but he can go to Las Vegas!!!. Also, don't forget he really loves #4, I bet he told the other 3 ladies the same thing. So what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas until your wife finds out. Ha

I can not believe that a man of his age would say that he didnt know that a wedding in Las Vegas was "real" did he miss the years and years of TV and News of weddings being held in "Sin City" No he thought it would be a good cover but guess what ignorance of the law is no defense, Sorry Wrong STATE

Maybe, he needs three wifes to help offset the cost of living! Having three incomes may help! He should sue the feds for the high cost of living and forced him to over extend. Is this not what happened to the banking system? The banks were forced to make ridiculous contract! How about a bailout for this man, after all, the feds made him do it!

So he planned to get a real marriage license and have a real ceremony and somehow the marriage wouldn't be real? Oh yeah, he must have remembered at the last minute that he already had a wife! What a dirtbag!
