(October 3, 2008)—The Texas Jail Standards Commission gave a preliminary OK Friday in Austin to plans for a privately built and privately operated jail in McLennan County.

County officials expect to receive a formal approval letter next week.

McLennan County Sheriff Larry Lynch Friday delivered the plans for the 812-bed county jail.

McLennan County Commissioners approved the plans this week, after earlier authorizing Community Education Centers to build and operate the facility next to the existing county jail on Highway 6.

All they did is tell the jailers what they wanted to hear to keep them quite. Those commissioners are a real piece of work.
