(October 4, 2008)-- One-time football hero O.J. Simpson woke up in jail Saturday morning in Nevada and could end up spending the rest of his life behind bars after his conviction on a dozen charges related to the robbery of two sports memorabilia dealers last fall in a Las Vegas hotel room.
Simpson and his lawyers had argued the incident was not a robbery, but an attempt to reclaim mementos that had been stolen from him but jurors didn’t buy their version.
The verdict came 13 years to the day after Simpson was cleared of murdering his ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and her friend, Ronald Goldman.
Sentence was taken into custody shortly after the charges were read against him.
As spectators left the courtroom, Simpson's sister collapsed and paramedics were called.

Simpson's attorney says the verdict was expected and now his client's "only hope is the appellate process."
