(October 6, 2008)—A search crew has found a third body over the weekend in debris on an island near where Hurricane Ike barreled ashore on Sept. 13, raising the state’s hurricane death toll to 36.

The Galveston County Medical Examiner's Office said searchers from Texas Task Force One found the body Sunday under debris on Goat Island, off the devastated vacation area of Bolivar Peninsula.

It the fourth Hurricane Ike victim found on Goat Island.

The bodies of a still unidentified man and a woman were found there Saturday, and fishermen found the body of Herman Thomas Moseley on Sept. 27.

More than 1 million people evacuated the Texas coast because of Ike, but hundreds who didn’t are still missing.

The storm caused flooding and deaths as far away as Pennsylvania and Illinois.

The storm claimed 71 lives nationwide.
