(October 6, 2008)—First Cavalry Division Pfc. Willie James Wiley, Jr., who was scheduled to deploy to Iraq later this year, has died of injuries he received in a high-speed rollover, Fort Hood said Monday.
Wiley was a passenger in a car that hit a wall at a high rate of speed and rolled over Friday on U.S. Highway 190 near Nolanville, Fort Hood said.
The driver escaped with minor injuries and was in stable condition Monday at Scott & White Hospital in Temple, Fort Hood said.
Wiley joined the Army in May 2007 and was assigned to the 1st Cavalry Division’s 1st Battalion, 12th Cavalry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team.
He was serving with the 1st Battalion., 12th Cavalry’s Rear Detachment while the battalion was in Iraq.
He had just returned from training at the National Training Center at Fort Irwin, Calif., Fort Hood said.
