(October 6, 2008)--A man charged in a murder-for-hire-plot that cost a Copperas Cove woman her life has pleaded guilty.
John Robert Martinez, was charged with capital murder in the 2007 death of Hidi Ann Gower, but agreed to plead guilty to criminal conspiracy to commit capital murder.
He is the third defendant to be punished in the case.
The gunman, Chaka Johnson, was sentenced in June to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
Gower's husband, Donald Gower, was sentenced to life in prison in August.
He was accused of hiring the hit man to kill his wife to collect on a life insurance policy.
He was also sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
A fourth man who’s charged in the murder, Jeremiah John Ellison, is expected to go on trial later this month.
Hidi Gower was found gunned down in front of the Kempner VFW on July 4, 2007, after her husband sent her outside to retrieve something from their car.
She was airlifted to Scott & White Hospital in Temple where she died shortly after arrival.
