Local School District Considers Attendance Zone Realignment Save Email Print

A | A | A

(October 7, 2008)—Midway Independent School District will hold a public hearing to consider a proposed realignment to its elementary and intermediate school attendance zones.

The realignment comes as construction on the new Castleman Creek Elementary School is nearing completion. The elementary school is scheduled to open in August 2009. The new intermediate school, yet to be named, is expected to open the following year.

The meeting, scheduled for Tuesday at 6:30 pm, will be held at Midway High School Auditorium located at 8200 Mars Drive in Waco.

A draft attendance zone map for the elementary and intermediate schools will be presented for discussion at the meeting. The public is invited to attend and voice its opinion of the proposal to the committee.

The new schools are being built to relieve overcrowded conditions in the schools and projected district growth in the next few years.

The attendance zones are scheduled to take affect for the 2009-2010 school year.

You should talk to your school. Was told last night by superintendent of MISD it is against Texas law to have more than 22 kids per class....period.

I agree with Brian. My step-son attends RCES and it is very crowded there!! I think the last count was at over 1100 students. That is ridiculous for an elementary school. They don't have the proper facilities or staff to handle that many children at one school. My step-son only sees his PE teacher and music twice a week because of the number of classes in each grade. Friends at other schools go to those much more often. I just did goody bags for his fall party and was asked to make 27 for his second grade class. 27 is a high number for such a young grade level. Something has to be done!!!

Quit whining and be happy that the district is building new schools instead of putting more students in each class. Going to a different elementary in the same school district is not going to "uproot your lives."

KISD should consider the same thing. Reeces Creek Elm is very overcrowded. That area is zoned for the "doughnut hole" and surrounding areas which are constantly under development. They just had five portables delivered last week!! RCES has 8 PreK classes, 9 Kinder, 8 1st, 9 2nd, 8 3rd, 8 4th, 6 5th...with more to come. I know for a fact their teacher to student ratio is breaking the law!!!
