(October 9, 2008)--A jury Thursday in Houston convicted a man accused of strangling his former girlfriend, a Texas A&M freshman, and then burning her dismembered body on two outdoor grills.
Jurors deliberated for about four hours Thursday before finding Timothy Wayne Shepherd guilty of murder Thursday.
Shepherd showed no emotion when the verdict was announced in a Houston courtroom.
Shepherd was accused of killing and dismembering Tynesha Stewart, 19, last year after a fight between the former lovers.
Stewart disappeared after visiting her former boyfriend, who lived in the same apartment complex as her mother.
He initially told police she left his apartment wearing pajamas and carrying a cell phone, but later admitted he killed her and then cut up her body and burned the body parts in his patio grill.
The jury was set to begin hearing evidence Thursday in the punishment phase.
Shepherd faces a possible sentence of life in prison.
