Police Say Mall Shooting Suspect Was Upset Over Purchase Save Email Print

(October 9, 2008)--A man who shot a clothing store employee to death in a mall in Knoxville, Tenn. was upset about a previous purchase at the store, police said Thursday.

Knoxville Police spokesman Darrell DeBusk said William Johnson, 42, went to Knoxville Center Mall Wednesday afternoon determined to get satisfaction from Reno Mens Wear.

Some mall merchants say the clothing store has a no-refund policy, but police didn't say exactly what Johnson wanted or what the disputed merchandise was.

Police say a preliminary investigation suggests Johnson became upset, pulled out a handgun and shot 29-year-old employee Ahmed Nahl.

Johnson was injured in a brief gun battle with police officers before his capture, he's recovering in a Knoxville hospital.

He has been charged with murder.

What the H*** is wrong with people? Have we degenerated to a society of such morons that when someone does something that makes us "feel bad" we think that gives the right to kill them? We coddle our children in school - no pizza parties for passing the TAKS test or whatever else because we might hurt the feelings of the kids who didn't pass. We don't keep score in little league because we don't want anyone to feel bad when they lose. We ban "tag" on school playgrounds because the person who is "it" might get their feelings hurt if they don't tag someone right away. We shield our kids from things that might "damage their self esteem", then when they are adults, and a store won't give them a refund, or they think a teenage girl jumped the line in frot of them at McDonalds, they think it's OK to snap a twig and beat or kill them. Enough of the PC, I'm OK, You're OK crap. We need to teach our kids the realities of life, and help them learn to cope with them.

You cant blame the store no matter how hard you try. Unless they did not have a dressing room, did not notify or display a No return policy and switched sizes on thier clothes....oh and also did not allow store credit. And I have never seen a store like THAT....

Hey Anonymous- "A man who shot a clothing store employee to death" humm.. I wonder what that means?

Posted by: Anonymous Location: Waco on Oct 10, 2008 at 12:48 PM
I dont believe the store was at fault. You have policies to protect merchandise, not policies to protect employees. If that man went into that store with a gun; it was because he had intent to use it no matter what the case, he even shot at the police. But to blame the store is ridiculous, I very much doubt that they made a "No Return" policy as a way to have customers get angry with the employees. This was a senseless act and I am very sorry for the loss of the family of the victim. The article doesnt say anyone died, but the man is being charged with murder.

This idiot brought the gun with him. I think he had every intention of shooting someone as soon as he decided to go back to the store.

I do hate stores that have the no-refund policy. Like there is one store in Waco that has no dressing room then have the nerves to have a no-refund policy.

Ok,now this is another senseless act of violence that could have been prevented, and now someone has lost their life because of stupid store rules that the management or owners have in place and the poor employee is the one that has to enforce it, i guess that comes along with the job, but it is just so, so sad, praying for the family of this indiviual
