Legislative Committee Concludes Palin Abused Power Save Email Print

A | A | A

(October 10, 2008) - A legislative panel has found Alaska Governor and Republican Vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin unlawfully abused her authority in firing the state's public safety commissioner.

The investigative report says other factors may have contributed to the firing of Walter Monegan but a family grudge could have also been a reason.

Palin is accused of firing Monegan to settle a family dispute.

According to the former commissioner, he was dismissed after he refused to fire a state trooper involved in a divorce with Governor Palin's sister.

Palin's supporter are calling the investigation politically motivated.

The report (that I have read) actually states that she was within her legal jurisdiction. The whole thing was trying to figure out if she fired this person for the right or wrong reasons and she was found to be not at fault. They did however find that she may have not handled it the correct way...but she was not out of her power in doing so. All these news stations major and local are erroniously reporting this story.

I agree with everything going on. She abused her power and now she needs to pay. This has nothing to do with the Democrats, stop trying to point blame where it doesn't need to be placed.

all I can say is, God helps us all if Barack "Osama Hussein" Obama)gets in the White House! If he does, Texas needs to leave the USA and become its own republic again. The USA will be screwed!

RE: Jimmie -- It looks like the others feel as I do. This is the 21st century and just like racism should not be tolorated, neither should jingoists (chauvinism against females) be tolorated. I've read your degrading posts on Gov. Palin since she was announced as the Republican VP nominee and yes, it's people like you that are a disgrace to women all over our nation and the world. If you're married, I feel for your wife. If you're gay, then oh well, that's your problem.

Tina in Killeen, I also feel you're not above the Law regardless who you may be. I feel they need to take action against Obama for encouraging and training people in voter fraud. I also want to see him explain all those fake name donors that were tracked to the Middle East.

All of you are fired for being stupid!!! Hope I havent abused my authority Ha Ha

When i read these posts from some of these democrats, I realize how happy I am to vote for McCain and Palin. What she did can't even begin to match up to what is going on in Obama's circle (his aquaintances so to speak (the ones he doesn't have a clue?) Besides, I am more upset the trooper wasn't fired in the first place so she wouldn't have had to do their job.

This "investigation" was going nowhere until she was selected as VP by McCain. The Democrats in the Alaskan Legislature then decided to move on it. Sarah Palin repeatedly asked for this to be moved to the labor board in Alaska that oversees such matters but the Dem leaders would not allow it. The story is that she did nothing wrong, as said by the commission, but that she should have stopped her husband from getting involved in trying to get the trooper fired. The trooper is a proven drunk, who tasered his own child. I for one am GLAD that someone did the right thing and not the politically correct thing in getting this guy fired. That is but one reason she will be the next VP.

That is funny Jimmy, you mention incompetence for sarah palin. She is running for VP. Whats worse is the incompetence of THE MASSIAH that is running for PRES. Go ahead and waste your vote. You can all try to cheat and get every homeless person, every dopehead, and every oprah worshiper and you still won't have enough people to elect the so called massiah to office. I don't want to see everyone of you running and burning down your neighborhood when he loses. I can hear the race card being thrown already. Do you hear it? I can.. Oh well live with it....

Posted by: ginny Location: cove on Oct 12, 2008 at 10:23 PM
i really don't see why they can't all just get over mudslinging and tell the American people what they WILL do to help America out of the horrible messes we are in. all we really need to hear from any of them is the truth about what they will or will not try to get done to help us become the great country we once was. GOD BLESS AMERICA

They found Palin guilty of abuse but her brother-law was not found guilty of child abuse of the ten year old. Sound like the priority are backward.

Personally, I don't believe that a woman like Palin, (she has proven herself that in her personal life decisions that she is a woman of integrity) would ever do something out of spite or as a pay back. I don't believe anything that the democrats have to say ( and make no mistake about this, they are behind this investigation and fed them the lies). I pray the McCain and Palin will win for the good of this country.

Posted by: Jimmie Location: Temple on Oct 12, 2008 at 01:49 AM
Linz – so why am I a pitiful disgrace? Because I am talking truth about how dear Sarah and hubby dishonored her political responsibilities to the level of a Hatfield-McCoy vendetta? It is American disgrace that you don’t see how dangerously incompetent she is for the political office she is seeking. And you want to discuss fraud and criminal associates? Cindy and John McCain’s old buddy Charles Keating served time in prison for wire and bankruptcy fraud. The McCains spent plenty of THEIR time “palling around” with Keating at his home in Arizona and the Bahamas.

No I have my facts just right. This article is about HER (Sarah Palin for those who are confused ie. linz) abuse of power, no one else's. Of course you would want to push blame onto someone else. This is just proving my first instincts were correct about Palin. If I wanted to talk or read about someone else I think I would not be reading this particular article. :)

Posted by: Linz Location: Temple on Oct 11, 2008 at 09:18 PM
Wow, some of you are ready to burn her at the stake. This is nothing compared to Obama's voter fraud and criminal associates. CC in Killeen, you might want to check the facts on who the real power abuser is. Jimmie in Temple, you're a pitiful disgrace. Anon in TX, I don't know what you are but it's not human!!

How about reporting the whole truth???? ANCHORAGE, Alaska - Sarah Palin abused her power as governor in the disciplinary case against a state trooper, according to a legislative panel's report released Friday, (though it also found that her firing of a state commissioner was "proper and lawful.)" The trooper was an abusive drunk, who drove drunk in his patrol car and also tasered....Let me repeat that, TASERED his own 10 yr. old son. This jerk didn't need to be just fired, he needs to be in PRISON. You know Obama is running on the same platform as Hugo Chavez did. You should check out how Chavez now censors all media that hasn't been shut down as he and his cronies re-wrote the Venezuelan Constitution. The liberal media "spin" in America, might backfire on you. Keep spinning at your own peril....

I wonder when we will have a real investigation into things that really matter like the scandal of Fannie and Freddie that drove our country in the ground? Oh yes that would involve democrats getting porsecuted for something they actually did. Can't have that now can we?

This does not matter as she still has my vote We are tired if the Mud sliging ..GO GOP

What a farce... Monegan has stated on record that he was never told to fire wooten (Alaska Daily Herald). Monegan had some projects he wanted money for, and when his request was denied, he cozied up to State Senator Hollis French and held a press conference pouting about the denial. Interestingly enough French is the one spearheading the investigation into Monegan's dismissal. Sounds like a temper tantrum to me...

Posted by: Jimmie Location: Temple on Oct 10, 2008 at 11:29 PM
Her behavior is sad for someone holding an office of public trust. But, even more so, is the Republican effort to cover up this issue, the attempts to delay the report till after the election, and blaming this investigation on partisan politics. All the clues of her extreme nut case persona are there for everyone NOT in denial to see. Sarah Palin needs to take her traveling horror show back to Alaska along with her trusted henchman husband Igor Todd Palin.

Posted by: CC Location: Killeen on Oct 10, 2008 at 10:53 PM
What is scarier than a power abuser in one of the most powerful positions in our government and the world? I'm so glad this came out. Sarah Palin is a waste of space.

Posted by: Lynn Location: Gatesville on Oct 10, 2008 at 10:33 PM
So what if she so called abused her power, she's not the first and she won't be the last to do it. The only reason we are hearing about it is because she's running for VP.

Posted by: KYJurisDoctor Location: KY on Oct 10, 2008 at 08:50 PM
It is so SHAMEFUL for Sarah Palin, and so disappointing for REAL Conservatives like me, but then again, this is NOT the first time she has been disappointing, nor do I suspect it will be the last. OsiSpeaks.com
