(October 11, 2008) – Gatesville police this week issued the city’s first citation for violation of a new curfew ordinance.

Officers report the citation was issued to a 14-year-old male at 12:15 a.m. Monday after the youth was apprehended at a business on Business Highway 36.

Officers were dispatched there on a reported theft and found the boy on the property.

He was detained on a charge of theft less than $50 and cited for violation of the city’s new curfew ordinance.

The youth now faces fines totaling $244 and must make a subsequent appearance in city court.

Police Chief Nathan Gohlke told News 10 officers had initially been told to issue warnings on first violations of the curfew ordinance that went into effect on June 29.

Through last week 17 warnings had been issued.

The curfew ordinance is designed to keep youths 16-years or younger off city streets from 11p.m. to 6 a.m., Sunday through Thursday and midnight to 6 a.m. Friday and Saturday.

Violators can face fines not to exceed $500.
