(October 12, 2008)—A man suffered head injuries Saturday night after he fell from a moving vehicle that was northbound on U.S. Highway 281 in Lampasas County.

An area fire chief who was dispatched to the scene, some 5 miles south of Evant, said investigators told him the man opened his door because he felt sick.

The injured man fell from the car, but the driver did not stop.

A Fort Hood soldier drove up on the scene around 8:50 p.m. Saturday and spotted the man lying in the road.

He called 911 for help.

The victim’s name, age, hometown and condition have not yet been released.

Initial reports indicated the man suffered severe head injuries in the fall.

He was flown to Scott and White Hospital via air ambulance.

Gatesville fire and rescue personnel, emergency medical services personnel from Gatesville, Hamilton and Lampasas, deputies from the Coryell County Sheriff’s Office and Texas Department of Public Safety troopers from both Coryell and Lampasas counties responded to the scene.

The Department of Public Safety is investigating.

Number 1: Since this has been posted I have not heard an appology from News 10 on the incorrect information that was put out for public view. Number 2: If your reporter has to twist the facts in order to get the story in the news then why does he still have a job. This is why I do not listen to your station when it comes to the news. Peole need to get thier story correct before they publish boguss reports and make everybody upset about these things. As one of the responders that was on scene and a friend of the family involved, I know that the driver did stop, and was atteptting to locate the individual after the accident. A note to Paul Gately, your wife is a lawyer in Gatesville and you of all people should know the ramifications of false information and liablility of such.

My family and I were the first on the scene and would like the family to know that we are keeping them in our thoughts and prayers.

The media has the story wrong. I know the family and the driver did stop. He's been at the hospital and everything. He didn't just leave his friend for dead.
