(October 14, 2008)—Casey Anthony, the mother of missing Florida toddler Caylee Anthony, was indicted for first-degree murder Tuesday.

A grand jury handed up the indictment even though the girl is still missing.

Before the indictment was returned, Anthony’s attorney said the ordeal has been difficult.

“Casey is going through a nightmare, and has been living a nightmare for the last several months,” said attorney Jose Baez.

“She has a missing child, she's also someone's child, this family has had to withstand something unlike anyone has ever seen.”

The girl evidently disappeared in June, but she wasn’t reported missing until a month later.

The 22-year-old mother earlier was charged with child neglect, lying to investigators and some unrelated fraud and theft counts.

On Tuesday, her father, George, testified behind closed doors along with a detective and an FBI agent.

Oh my god! FINALLY! I seriously thought this B was going to away with this! I am totally with Sandra.. where were the tears when he DAUGHTER WENT MISSING! I have a three year old daughter, only two weeks younger than Caylee... and you know, if she went missing I would have to be put in a mental institution. Bc I would go absolutely crazy. I dont even know what to say about this whole story... all I know is Casey deserves to die.

I can understand that it can be stressful at times and especially in these times were it is hard to make ends meet. But, to take the life of an innocent little one there is no excuse for the action. There are more crimes against our children than against the society that is really going on. Someone has to bring this to light you dont here to much about the killings of children in the media or even looking in the news paper. "Its sad but true".And we as a nation have to get back to the responsibilties of what is going on around us this next child victim could be your neighbor, relative or just some child that is walking right in front of you.We do not want to be what I could have done, or I should have done to protect that child from harm. There is no excuse for any harm to child no reason at all.

Finally!! And do you know what really made me mad? All this time she has not cried a drop, and now that they're pressing murder charges, she broke down and cried. She's just upset that her freedom may be over. If my baby had been missing for even a few minutes, I can guarantee that I'd be bawling my eyes out. Yet we saw pictures of her partying with friends and not a tear in sight. The grandparents should have let her put the baby up for adoption like she wanted to do. Then the little girl would be with a family that wanted her.

how cana mother not report her child missing for more than a month? And how can a judge even set a bail? Wasn't this little girls body decomp found in the mothers trunk? I can not believe all of the terrible crimes that are being commited against children, and the mothers of the children taking the childs life. What is wrong with these women? If you do want children use birth control, keep your legs closed, or if you have a child that is unwanted give it up for adoption to couples who can not have children! To just kill a child is sick!! These people need help! They actually need lethal injection!
