(October 16, 2008)—National Transportation Safety Board investigators were on the scene Wednesday after the crash of a medical helicopter in which three crewmembers and the 13-month old girl they were transporting died.

The helicopter was taking the girl, who had suffered seizures, to Children's Memorial Hospital in Chicago when it went down in a field near a residential area Wednesday night.

Police in Aurora, Ill. say the aircraft was engulfed in flames.

The helicopter belonged to Air Angels, an emergency medical transport service.

It is at least the ninth fatal crash in the past 12 months across the country involving a medical transport helicopter.

It seems as if you have a better chance if you can be transported in a ambulance. I wonder why this has been happening so often. Besides the medical helicopters there have been several others this year.
