(June 20, 2006)--Military officials in El Paso say a 75-year-old man found dead in the Franklin Mountains was an Army doctor.
The body of Col. Harry S. Spaulding, Jr. of Aurora, Colo. was discovered late Saturday.
El Paso police say a neighbor reported Spaulding missing a few hours earlier, after realizing he hadn't returned from a morning hike.
Emergency officials say Spaulding had water and other hiking gear, but temperatures on Saturday hit the upper 90's.
The cause of death hasn't been released.
William Beaumont Army Medical Center says Spaulding was assigned to the facility as part of his duties with the 2291st Army Hospital in Aurora.
Spaulding was retired from active duty but volunteered for a 120-day assignment to fill in for doctors who'd deployed.
His service in the El Paso area was expected to end Sept. 5.
