(June 28, 2006)—Former teacher Emory Bitterman, 59, is facing a 20 year prison sentence after a Bell County jury convicted him Tuesday of sexual assault of a child in a case involving a 16-year-old boy whom Bitterman taught at the American Preparatory Institute in Killeen in 2005.
Jurors deliberated just 15 minutes before finding Bitterman guilty and just six minutes before returning the maximum sentence.
Bitterman, who denied having any sexual contact with the teenager, must serve a minimum of 10 years in prison before he’s eligible for parole.
