(October 22, 2008)—An alert was issued Wednesday afternoon after reports that four people dressed in black and carrying guns were on the campus of Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green, Ky.

The text alert sent to students and staff at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday said, "An armed man has been reported on WKU South Campus. Please stay clear of this area."

Police evacuated the South campus as they searched the area.

A second alert indicated that shots had been fired and Bowling Green police confirmed gunfire on the school’s main campus, but authorities found no weapons.

Police say there was a fight near a dorm, but said it did not involve weapons.

One person was reportedly taken into custody for questioning.
