(July 2, 2006)--Abu Musab al-Zarqawi has now been buried.
A top Iraqi security official told The Associated Press the former al-Qaeda-in Iraq leader is buried in a "secret location" in Baghdad.
The U.S. military is confirming the burial but declining to give more details.
The military says in an e-mailed statement the remains were turned over to Iraqi officials "and buried in accordance with Muslim customs and traditions."
Iraqi officials have not said when the militant was buried.
Zarqawi was killed on June 7 in a U.S. air strike northeast of Baghdad.
An extensive DNA work-up was done to confirm his identity.
