Feds Disrupt Assassination Plot Targeting Obama

October 27, 2008)—The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives said Monday it has broken up a plot to assassinate Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama and to shoot or decapitate another 88 black people in Tennessee.

Agents disrupted the plans of two neo-Nazi skinheads to rob a gun store and target an unnamed, but predominantly African-American high school, according to court records unsealed Monday.

There, it's alleged, the two planned to kill 88 black people, 14 of them by beheading.

The numbers 88 and 14 are said to have significance among white supremacists, The Associated Press reported.

The men then planned to go on a nationwide killing spree.

Obama was to be the men’s final target, Jim Cavanaugh, special agent in charge of the Nashville field office said.

"They said that would be their last, final act — that they would attempt to kill Sen. Obama," Cavanaugh told the AP.

"They didn't believe they would be able to do it, but that they would get killed trying."

According to an arrest affidavit, the two men planned to drive their vehicle as fast as they could toward Obama, firing from the windows with high-powered rifles.

The affidavit said the two men planned to wear white tuxedos and top hats during the assassination attempt.
