(October 29, 2008)—A SWAT team member shot and killed a man who twice pointed a rifle at a police officer during a two-hour standoff early Wednesday morning in Houston.
Houston police who responded to a disturbance call around 5:30 a.m. Wednesday were told by the man's brother that he had been taking drugs throughout the night and was inside a bedroom armed with a rifle.
Police spokesman Officer Gabe Ortiz says the man was yelling, screaming and belligerent.
The man, whom authorities did not identify, didn't respond to commands from negotiators and officers asking him to surrender peacefully.
The man pointed a rifle at officers twice and was shot twice by a SWAT team member.
Police removed several rifles but Ortiz said he didn't know if officers found narcotics.
The man's brother evidently left the area soon after officers arrived.
Police are looking for him.
