(October 29, 2008)--Two restaurant cooks were jailed Wednesday after a new Central Texas police chief with whom one of the cooks evidently had a beef was served what investigators said was intentionally tainted food.

Burnet Police Chief Paul Nelson said he believes he was the sole target.

Jaime Perez, 23, and James Ledesma were jailed Wednesday on felony counts of tampering with a consumer product.

A Burnet County jailer, who declined to give her name, said bond for Perez was set at $50,000.

Bond was pending for Ledesma.

Sheriff's Capt. Dwight Hardin said body fluids were put in Nelson's food, including spit and mucus.

Officials with the restaurant where the cooks were employed denounced the alleged tampering and said they work hard to make the restaurant good.

Yeah, I want to know what restaurant this is. I'm not a cop, but I will never eat at a place that will not take responsibilty for what they did wrong. This restaurant should be ashamed of themselves for letting something like this happen. They are just as bad as the punks that did this.

I believe this should be treated as a 'Hate' Crime, and the person should be arrested/convicted/sentenced accordingly!!! And there are 'other' charges that should be brought against him too!! Back-To-The-Future!!

I saw this story on TXCN. The restaraunt did accept the information that the employees did the misdeed. It is unfortunate that we will most likely put the business out of service because of this. Maybe when a teacher is found to be a child molester we should pull out kids out of school. Yeah it stinks that those two decided to do something like that, but be rest assured that going back will be safe eating. I guarantee that the owners/managers will keep a keen eye on what goes on the kitchen. I too wear a badge and do consider food tampering, but sometimes we just have to take a chance. Not all food service persons are scum bags.
