(July 19, 2006)-- Technical Sgt. Raymond S. Cisneros, San Antonio was a crewmember on a B-24 Liberator that disappeared on an armed reconnaissance mission in 1943 over the Bismark Sea.
The crew took off from Dobodura, Territory of New Guinea with orders to shadow a convoy.
Four hours later crewmembers reported they had made three direct hits on the convoy and had destroyed the target.
Then the radio went silent.
In March 2002, a government official in New Guinea turned over aircraft data plates, human remains and three ID tags to a team from the Joint POW/MIA Accounting Command.
The team returned to the site from which the remains were recovered the next year and uncovered additional remains and personal effects including ID tags and bracelets.
Those, along with dental records, were used to identify the crewmembers.
On Wednesday, Lt. William M. Hafner, Norfolk, Va., 2nd Lt. Arthur C. Armacost, III, Cincinnati, Ohio, Staff Sgt. William C. Cameron, Los Angeles, Calif. and Technical Sgt. James G. Lascelles, New York, N.Y. were buried at Arlington National Cemetery.
Cisneros, 2nd Lt. David R. Eppright, Warrensburg, Mo.; 2nd Lt. Charles F. Feucht, Reynoldsburg, Ohio, Technical Sgt. Alfred W. Hill, Temple, Okla. and Staff Sgt. Wilburn W. Rozzell, Duncan, Okla. were laid to rest elsewhere, the military said.
The men were members of the 63rd Bombardment Squadron, 43 Bombardment Group.
