Woman Who Severed Baby’s Arms To Be Freed

(November 7, 2008)--A Plano woman who killed her 10-month-old daughter by cutting off the infant’s arms with a kitchen knife is due to be released from a state mental hospital.

Dena Schlosser killed her baby daughter, Maggie, in 2004.

Her first trial ended with a hung jury.

In 2006 she was sent to a mental hospital after being found not guilty by reason of insanity.

Collin County prosecutor Curtis Howard said Schlosser will be released into outpatient treatment within the next month.

Schlosser testified at trial that she killed her daughter because she wanted to give the baby to God.

A judge held Schlosser's annual commitment hearing this week and
decided she's mentally stable enough to leave the hospital.

Schlosser notified the court via letter in June that she thinks her current mental health needs can be met by outpatient community services.

It's unclear where Schlosser will live.

She and her husband divorced last year.

Schlosser is barred from seeing her two surviving daughters.

Ed in New Jersey...'unforgiving'? A ten month old baby is horrificly murdered. Her tender arms sawed off by a kitchen knife. The pain that baby must have felt. Not to mention the bone this woman had to cut through and you want forgiveness? This child was awake for her whole murder by someone who she thought loves her and you want us to show some kind of mercy/compassion? No way. This woman burns in hell. May this little girl rest in peace after her own mother mutilated her. Here is my prayer: Dear Lord please send this woman to hell, she doesn't deserve to breathe in anything but pungent air. She deserves to be in total pain and misery for eternity. Please slice her arms off daily and cut through the bone. Make her feel that over and over again. Amen.

Insane? Yes. Who could do something like this and not be insane? But at the same time why we we want to trust her in public ever again? Rehabilitate? Why? Not for a crime like this. Turn her loose? Not on your life. Mental hospital? Again why? What moron of the judicial system is responsible for this? Wake up, find out who is responsible, remove them from office, vote them out or whatever it takes. When it comes about let them know why. As for her, life in prison, too costly, execute. See if she's still smiling when she gets the juice. WAKE UP.

Geez...are you freakin' serious? That is crazy..."by reason of insanity" she was been released. She choppped off her babies arms! Like someone has already stated, she should spend much more time in the mental hospital if not in jail. Ya'll are right...the system in Texas is jacked up. I have been away from Texas for about two years, and each year it seems like the crime rate keeps going up and up, one of the reasons being an example of this. Let's wake up Texas. I bet this makes visitors of Texas wonder about our slogan "Don't mess with Texas". Don't get me wrong, I LOVE Texas...but this has to get fixed! Too many news coverage over the most ridiculous cases of violence is happening...things that can be prevented easily! :(

If someone is found not guilty by reason of insanity, then they should spend the rest of their natural lives in a mental hospital, no release back into society whatsoever. Our court system is really messed up and needs to be fixed badly. If they are going to let this monster out then they should just go ahead and let out all the mothers who have killed their children. This monster is playing the system. If she does something while she is out in public she is just going to cry that she is insane again just so she can get off again. This is absolutely sick!!!!

The Texas judicial system irks me more & more. Women serving long prison sentences cause they didn't know that their husbands or boyfriends were selling dope, but kill your baby & Texas will let you be crazy for a hot minute then set you free instead of putting you behind bars where this animal belongs for the rest of her life!!

So the court will release her because she wrote a letter to the judge stating she "thinks" her needs will be met on an outpatient basis? Well, there are plenty of mentally unstable people who "think" they can care for themselves and have not committed the crime that she has. What an injustice. I pray that she doesn't gain access to her surviving children.

so what the courts is saying that i can go around killing people and play crazy and get away with it. we have a missed up system and they wonder why waco and killeen burglar and murder rate is rising because these crimes are not being taking serious. if you gat caught in killeen for burglar guess what the most you get is 5months yep that mean they would be back on the streets before xmas to take all your xmas gifts this is so worng on all levels.

This is crazy. After 4 years in a hospital they let her go. She ought to be going to prison. They do seriously need to revise how to punish the insane. It should be Guilty by reason of insanity instead. By saying not guilty, it's like saying she never did anything. That's not right. Where's the justice?? This woman has had a free ride the last four years. Could you imagine how much her medical bills could be? She ought to pay back with institution. Being in a hospital is not the same as prison. Who else is gonna be next? Charles Manson getting released???

This just shows how broken our judicial system is. Letting a murderer go free due to a "reason of insanity" plea. The judge will probably say he's releasing her because he has a case of "reason of insanity."

Insanity? And she is now well enough to have her needs met through outpatient therapy?? First, I must say that anyone who kills or injures a child (or anyone for that matter)is insane. No need to argue that point. She needs to be in prison for a long long time. How could she now be sane enough for outpatient treatment. If i had killed my child or anyone for that matter i couldnt live with myself. I would never believe i deserved outpatient care. I say lets stop the insanity pleas and punish these idiots. She wants out now... what about her baby? To me she is thinking of only herself... truly the thinking of the criminaly insane... (criminal being the key word).

I wish they'd do away with the insanity defense. Of course she was insane at the time! Sane people don't do these horrible things. But I see no reason why she shouldn't have to serve a sentence. For a mother to torture her own child to death and then get released at her own request, makes no sense to me.

Wow-pretty unforgiving readers. I would think that if she was insane at the time, she is now living with the hell of her actions. What sane person would cut off her babys arms with a kitchen knife? If released she should obviously have a case worker assigned for the rest of her life, and closely monitored if she should have another child. I pray for her. I like all the other readers am appauled at this woman being released or freed as they say, she looks like a deranged killer in this photo, from 04 do they have an up to date photo of this child killer, sho will soon be free to probably look up her other kids and try to harm them as well, if she can play the sane role now to be released, Lord knows she will probably try and go after her other 2 children, looking forward to an update on this story and maybe an updated picture of how she looks now,'Sane vs Insane' What a Joke!

The headline of this says "freed" That woman will never be free from the horrible act she did. I dont understand why she can just be mentally ill and then walk out of the hospital and seek outpatient treatment. She needs to be locked in there or locked up elsewhere...if not sentenced to Death Row.

So she is well now and has the brains to notify the court that she is able to be released. Well excuse Me the only thing she needs to be released to is prison somewhere so maybe someone can cut her arms off with nothing to kill the pain and then just let her bleed to death
