(November 12, 2008)--A Houston-area man sentenced to die for fatally shooting his ex-girlfriend's sister during an attack that left the former girlfriend's mother and another sister injured was executed Wednesday evening in Huntsville.

George Whitaker III apologized for the deadly shooting before he was administered the lethal injection.

Whitaker expressed love to family members and asked for forgiveness over the attack at a home in Crosby.

"I apologize for your pain and suffering," he said.

Whitaker asked that the Lord give them strength, adding, "I pray Lord, please forgive me."

He asked his stepfather, brother and a friend who watched through a window to take care of his two daughters.

"Continue to pray for me. I am fine. I've made peace with God. Please don't ever forget me," Whitaker said.

As the lethal drugs began to flow, Whitaker said, "Take care. I'm going on to sleep."

Whitaker, 36, was convicted of gunning down Shakeitha Carrier, 16, in 1994 at her family's home in Crosby, just east of Houston in Harris County in a shooting that left his former girlfriend’s mother and another sister injured.

His ex-girlfriend wasn’t home at the time of the shootings.

He was the 16th Texas prisoner executed this year.

A convicted Central Texas killer is scheduled to die Thursday evening.

Denard Manns was sentenced to death in 2002 in Bell County for the 1998 murder of Army Spc. Michelle Robson, who was sexually assaulted and shot in the head and chest.

Prosecutors said Manns took credit cards and cash from the victim’s residence in Killeen and fled in her car.

He was arrested after the murder on an unrelated weapons charge, but was charged in the killing after forensic tests linked the firearm to the murder.

Why do they appoligise when getting the needle? Who knows what's in thier hearts. Some may really regret what they did, but I think if they really did regret the murders then they should have requested the sentence be carried out immediately! That would prove thier sincerety and save a bunch of time and money. After all, if I had committed cold blooded murder and then realised how badly I was wrong, then I would not want to live with the guilt. I would ask for the sentence to be carried out immediately so I could relieve myself of that guilt. Obviously I don't think most of these criminals mean anything other than "I am going to meet God soon so I had better get some me some guilt credits built up in a hurry!" If it were my sister, he'd have never survived this long. Bring on the next one, blunt the needle to make it hurt more, and let's get on with sending the criminal to Hell where he (or she) belongs! I have no pity for these cretins or tolerance for the anti-death penalty fools.

Why do these cowards want to apologize to the family and everybody when they are about to get the juice? Its because they are scared and thats why we need to be putting more of these killers on death row to teach lessons for their crimes and for those who think they are fearless.
