(November 13, 2008)—After saying he was “ready for the transition,” Twice-convicted robber Denard Manns, 42, was executed Thursday evening in Huntsville for the robbery, rape and murder of a Fort Hood medic who was killed in her apartment near post.

Manns was executed almost 10 years to the day after the Nov. 18, 1998 killing.

Before he received the lethal injection, he criticized his trial attorneys by name for what he said was an unfair trial, criticized an appeals attorney for “purposely bringing up claims that did not exist,” and thanked a third lawyer for taking on his appeal after he was supposed to have been off the case.

He expressed love to his friends, and then said, said, "I'm ready for the transition."

He uttered what appeared to be a brief prayer three times, and then he died.
He was pronounced dead at 6:24 p.m.

Prosecutors said he entered Michelle Robson’s apartment, raped her, shot her repeatedly with a .22 caliber handgun and then took her credit cards, cash and car.

The Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles cleared the way for Manns' punishment by refusing a petition seeking commutation of his death sentence to life in prison.

Other appeals had been exhausted.

Manns was the 17th Texas inmate executed this year.

Manns denied involvement in Robson's murder and maintained the DNA evidence tying him to the crime was wrong.

Good riddance. They should have taken him out back of the courthouse and hung him in 1998 in public. With the DNA evidence, Credit Cards, and her car he was without any kind of doubt guilty! Now, why exactly did it take ten years to pull the plug on this scum?????? Oh, yeah, he has rights. Seems to me that the courts need to start refusing convicted criminals all these Constitutional rights until they serve their sentences. They won't live in peace obeying the law, they get convicted, THEN they start thinking of thier rights and trying to invoke rights they deny thier victims...and the courts let them. Victims have rights, need justice, and society does too. Criminals need sentences carried out quickly. Do the crime, lose your rights! Period! One appeal of sentence, then carry out sentence, line 'em up and don't make 'em wait for years!

I believe this man is wrongly convicted. This is not a first it's a Texan cliché. If those we put in authority conclude there has been a miscarriage who will they apologise to and how will they put it right? Might they, for example, offer themselves up to Death Row and pay the price? If so do they have the calibre to match the dignity and grace with which this man departed.

Ya, he is so totally innocent. Eventhough his DNA was on her body and he had her jewelry amongst other things in his possession. May the Lord punish you accordingly... You will no longer be a threat to society..

Thank You Huntsville for carrying out justice for the people of Texas. We send you the worst people plucked from the drains of our cities. Criminals should take heed, police yourself or be policed by the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.
