(November 20, 2008)—Robert Jean Hudson, 45, who was convicted of stabbing his ex-girlfriend to death and slashing the woman’s 9-year-old son when the boy came to his mother’s defense, was executed just after 6 p.m. Thursday in Huntsville.

Hudson repeatedly expressed love to his wife and a friend who
watched through a window and ignored four relatives of his
victim.

"I will take you to heaven with me," Hudson said from the
death chamber gurney.

"I will always be with you."

"Now pray with this young man down here and we'll go," he
said, nodding to the chaplain who stood at his feet.

Hudson then said the Lord's Prayer and concluded by again expressing love.

"I am your's and we are one. Let's go warden," he said.

Hudson was the 18th inmate to be executed this year in Texas.

Hudson stabbed Edith Kendrick, 35, seven times after beating down the door of her apartment in 1999 in the Dallas suburb of Mesquite.

Investigators said Hudson was in a rage after earlier calling Kendrick and hearing the voice of another man in the background.

Kendrick died at the scene.

Kendrick’s son survived the attack and ran to the apartment of a neighbor who called police.

Officers arrested Hudson at the scene.

The boy was later able to identify Hudson as the man who killed his mother.
