(November 21, 2008)—Ruby Carroll, who was born in India, raised in Singapore and educated in Australia, celebrates her first Thanksgiving as a U.S. citizen next week.

She immigrated to the U.S. 14 years ago, and this week in a ceremony in Waco, Federal Magistrate Jeffrey C. Manske swore her in as a naturalized citizen while two soldiers from Fort Hood’s 1st Air Cavalry Brigade, 1st Cavalry Division held as a backdrop an American Flag that flew over the U.S. Capitol.

After the ceremony, the soldiers folded the flag and presented it to Carroll, who lives in McGregor with her husband Dan, who often serves as a language interpreter in federal court proceedings.

The ceremony was held a month after she passed the final written examination in San Antonio with a perfect score.

“Ruby, you are the kind of person this nation was built upon and we are privileged to welcome you aboard,” Manske said.

woo, someone finally immigrated legally. now why don't you cover the masses of illegals that come over the border everyday or the drug war violence that is spilling over the border into american streets

Great Story!! She certainly does deserve recognition for gaining U.S. citizenship the legal, respectful and right way.

Congratulations Ruby Carroll!! She did it right, instead of sneaking in, living off of us and our government, She said her pledge to the American Flag, and to speak our American English!! Thank You Ms. Carroll!! Too bad we still have several million illegals that will 'not' do this,, but raise hell and protest all the time???!!! Back-To-The-Future!!

I'm glad to see there are still some who love our country enough to take the LEGAL steps of naturalization. I agree dude, there should be consequences for those that choose to just sneak in and live off the system. Congratulations Ruby Carroll!!
