(November 24, 2008)--Two El Paso health care workers died in a hail of gunfire while driving in a funeral procession this weekend in Ciudad Juarez, Mexico.

Roberto Martinez was a physician's assistant and Ruth Sagredo Velasco was a nurse practitioner.

They worked at the Texas Tech Health Sciences Center in El Paso.

They were driving in a funeral procession for Sagredo’s sister, who was killed earlier in the week, when someone opened fire with an AK-47 assault rifle.

At least 20 shots were fired at the 2004 Kia Amanti in which the two were riding.

No arrests have been made.

Juarez, a sprawling border city of about 2 million people across the Rio Grande from El Paso, has been plagued by violence amid an ongoing drug cartel war that has killed more than 1,300 people this year.

It can happen to you, anywhere in this country. It doesn't have to be Mexico! Why can't just get along and protect yours!

kat .... You're the only one to bring up the race issue. Everyone is talking about the wall, crimes at the Mexican border and illegals being here. You say we need to tighten our borders and everyone here should be legal with papers. Am I missing something or are you just ignorant?

first off TEXAS LEGAL its not all mexican people who are uneducated non english speaking peasants! Many people come over here from all over the world to better their life and to support there familys. Most of them are hard working, not saying that all are innocent angels, but now days who is? they do the jobs that some of us americans dont want to do! so before you spread your ignorance to everyone think before you speak. This should not be about race it should be about two innocent people losing their lives. regardless things happen like that in america everyday to all cultures and we do just as much killing as they do. yes they should be punished, will they be.. probably not! but alot of americans get a slap on the wrist too.do i believe that we should tighten our border controls yes, do i believe they should be over here legally and have their papers yes!

Coming to your front porch soon... Obama and McCain will be pushing for amnesty and open borders in 2009. Yes they feel that our country is not suffering enough with economic collapse, unemployment, shortage of resourses, etc. Now they want you to take on the responsibility for millions of uneducated-non english speaking peasents. but hey what's a couple more million people to support? Time to fight for your country or your children will no longer have a future. You can see from this article what their future will hold. But then you all wanted 'change' right?

Over the river and through the woods, the violence is coming to YOU. The Wall isn't on anointed-elect's agenda. Better arm yourself, it's going to get worse .....

Its only gonna get worse if they don't build that wall and man it with snipers 24-7. And something needs to be done with the ones already over here illegally-LIKE send them back!

That is what they get for going to Mexico. Unless you have an armoured truck don't go.

BUILD THE WALL AND KEEP THAT SCUM OUT OF HERE!

And they wonder why we want a wall built between them and us. I say put up the wall along the border and man it will guard towers sporting M-60's.

Sounds like a dangerous place to me, and if the U.S. doesn't get a hold of some of the same things going on here, then more things will happen here like what is going on there. Instead of keeping these fools in prison for the rest of their life for killing others over drugs, the courts need to state putting fools to death for their crimes. Japan does not have these type of problems because they take care of the fools who keep giving such problems. These fools are like cancer that keeps spreading and the U.S. just wants to put a bandaid on the situation....
