(November 24, 2008)—President Bush has granted pardons to 14 people, including two Texans, and has commuted the prison sentences of two others, The Associated Press reported Monday.

Among those the president pardoned are Brenda Jean Dolenz-Helmer of Fort Worth, William Hoyle McCright Jr. of Midland and Daniel Figh Pue III of Conroe.

Dolenz-Helmer was sentenced to four years probation in 1998 after pleading guilty to mail fraud charges. A report by the Office of Inspector General said the case involved a worker's compensation billing scheme at the office of her father, a Dallas doctor.

Pue, who is the former superintendent of production at Conroe Creosoting, pleaded guilty in 1996 to two counts of illegally transporting and dumping more than 1,500 gallons of hazardous sludge in a ditch.

McCright, the former executive vice president of First National Bank of Midland, initially was sentenced to 12 years in prison in the 1980s for making false entries, books, reports or statements to a bank.

The AP reported that the crimes committed by those on the list include drug offenses, income tax evasion, bank embezzlement and violation of the Bald and Golden Eagle Protection Act.

The pardons are the president’s first since March and come with less than two months left in Mr. Bush’s presidency.

All told, Mr. Bush has granted 171 pardons and eight commutations during his nearly eight years in office, which is fewer than half as many as Presidents Clinton or Reagan issued during their two-term presidencies.

Under the Constitution, the president's power to issue pardons is absolute and cannot be overruled.

Pardons
Leslie Owen Collier of Charleston, Mo.
Milton Kirk Cordes of Rapid City, S.D.

Carey C. Hice Sr. of Travelers Rest, S.C.

Paul Julian McCurdy of Sulphur, Okla.
Robert Earl Mohon Jr. of Grant, Ala.

Marlin.... the two border patrol officers were sentenced just last week. If Clinton can pardon 140 people as he's literally walking out the door, Bush still has time. And I hope he does pardon them.

Yet I don't see the names of the two border patrol men who were railroaded into prison by an out of control prosecutor (friend of Bush) who searched all over Mexico to give amnesty to a drug dealer so he could prosecute the law officers. Now those two men have been in prison for not committing a crime. The prosecutor lied, the dealer lied, and still the court ordered the jury to ignore evidence which would have caused them to be found innocent. So much for justice.....

My poor, stupid Patriot. That's just the first wave. Bush is going to make Clinton's list look like a girl scout troop. Just wait until his "last minute" list comes out.

Diablow, you're like a bothersome little gnat that won't go away. So here's my flyswatter..... Every President pardons during office and right before leaving office. Here's a list of Clinton's last minute pardons. There's (125) with their crimes ------ http://www.usdoj.gov/opa/pardonchartlst.htm ------- Btw, the list has alot of Texans on it. What's your point... Bush should have let MORE criminals go free like Clinton did?? Do you feel squashed yet?? Geez, that was too easy I almost feel sorry for you.....NOT!! lmao

Oh yes, I remember Wright! I lived in Midland at the time. The same day he approved a $2 million loan on non-existant cattle, the bank repo'ed my car...I was 31 days late. Har Har. BTW, Bushie had an office in Midland at that time...I worked in the same building. His oil company went broke. But I'll bet it didn't cost him a cent. No wonder her pardoned Wright.
