(November 25, 2008)—Authorities used a bloodhound Tuesday to try to track down the person who cut through a remote fence and then beheaded a tame deer at the Bear Creek Pioneers Park wildlife sanctuary in Houston.

The remains of the child-friendly deer, known as Mr. Buck, were found Tuesday after someone took the head and antlers and left the carcass behind.

Harris County Commissioner Steve Radack said anyone who attacks an animal in captivity "is just the lowest of the low."

Taxidermy shops in the Houston area were advised about the crime.

Charges including felony animal cruelty and poaching could be pursued against any suspects.

This is why we have animal cruelty and poaching laws!! Nice mounts & antler-made items are big business. Idiots will pay good money for a mount and they don't care how or where about the kill. I've heard this goes on in Mexico at many hunting resorts. Guys pay big bucks to party all week, never take a shot and get to bring home a nice mount. Sad part here...this pet deer probably walked right up to it's killer, thinking he's a friend that might give him a snack!! This is SICK!!!
