(December 2, 2008)—An early-morning apartment fire Tuesday left four Waco families homeless.
The fire broke out around 7 a.m. Tuesday at the Landmark apartments in the 300 block of Richland Drive in Waco.
Two of apartment units were damaged by fire, two others by smoke and water.
The American Red Cross was providing hotel rooms for the displaced residents Tuesday night and the apartment complex plans to move the families into other apartments on Wednesday.
The cause of the fire is under investigation, but an official said it appears the fire originated on the landing of one of the apartment units.
All the units were occupied at the time of the fire but tenants made it out safely without injuries.
Eight fire trucks and 25 firefighters were dispatched to the fire Tuesday morning.
The first crew on the scene reported visible smoke and flames.
Richland Drive was shut down for two to three blocks around the complex.
