(December 2, 2008)—A 62-year old woman whom Texas City police found home alone, barely clinging to life, was in the hospital Tuesday.

A Texas City police spokesman says officers found the woman after someone called 911 late Friday and identified himself as her son.

He said his mother had bedsores and needed an ambulance.

He said the back door of the house would be open, and then hung up.

The officer arrived to find the woman alone in the house with maggots eating her flesh.

The police spokesman said the house was in deplorable condition.

Several cats were running free and there was an overwhelming stench similar to that of decaying flesh.

The woman was identified as Linda Sue Sainz, a retired Galveston County Sheriff's Office dispatcher.

She was taken to Mainland Medical Center in Texas City.

Hospital officials said Tuesday they couldn't reveal her condition.

Texas City Police Chief Robert Burby said Adult Protective Services investigating.

Family members told police they had not seen Sainz since January.

Was the caller who told 911 he was this poor woman's son really the son? And if he was really her son and supposedly taking care of her, why was she obviously left in deplorable conditions to die? The son (?) needs to be prosecuted for "Abuse of the Elderly". Family members should be ashamed that they had not checked on this poor woman in almost a year. I hope this poor lady survives. Sounds like someone wanted her retirement money badly!!

OMG. If that was her son that called then he knew or he had her that way. That poor woman. We need to speak up for our elders just like children that are being abused.

"Family members told police they had not seen Sainz since January" -- and this is December?? They didn't think to check on her?? How sad!

The man that dialed 911 and identified himself as her son, they do not know if he was her son or not, he could have been an intruder trying to rob the house. He could have felt guilty when he saw her lying there on the brink of death, it is possible he had a change of heart and called to get her help. If it ends up being her son, how worthless is he to call for help then leave his mother there to die alone. Thankfully she is still alive.

This is a crying shame, who would leave their mother in this type of condition. I hope she pulld through this.

Thats why you need Life Alert or Life Line when you are elderly. Plus something must be wrong I mean really really wrong with the Son and the rest of the family. Hope she makes it OK and that Adult Protective Services will monitor her frequently.
