(December 4, 2008)--The father of one of three 8-year-old boys who were killed 15 years ago in West Memphis, Ark. is suing Dixie Chicks singer Natalie Maines and other band members for defamation.

Maines spoke out for three people convicted of the slayings and alleged the stepfather was instead involved in the killings.

Terry Hobbs, who was the stepfather of Steve Branch, who was killed 1993 with Christopher Byers and Michael Moore, filed a suit in Pulaski County Circuit Court on Nov. 25 that names all three members of the Dixie Chicks, but focuses on Maines, identified by her married name of Natalie Pasdar.

The suit seeks compensatory and punitive damages.

Hobbs claims he suffered loss of income, injury to his reputation and emotional distress.

Hey Dixie Twit - Do you mean to say you ARE a retard or YOUR retard as in he is YOUR retard...nice to talk about his spelling when obviously he was just writing what he wrote and how he wrote it for effect. Then again you were too stupid to catch that too... (too=also)

It was your precious Bush that sent our soldiers to war - and for what? It was your precious Bush that raised interest rates and min. monthly payments on your credit cards. We're in a deep recession, only to get worse, and who do we have to blame? Just because Bush is from Texas, and we, as Texans, have alot of state pride, doesn't mean that he is the be-all end-all president. In actuality [read your history books, kids] he has had a very sedentary presidency, aside from "9/1" and the "war." Can anybody tell me why we're still in Iraq? An honest reason - because the original reason...WMD..yeah, remember...we didn't find any of those. Now I have not bashed Bush like the Dixie Chicks, nor have I bashed any of you Bush-ers, I am merely stating my opinion in a public forum. This right is provided to me by the US Constitution.

For some reason celebrities think that their opinions matters to everyone. I could care less what the Dixie Chicks think. They do have the freedom of speech, however, when it has a negitve affect on a person, like this, then they must be held accountable. I hope he gets every dime he is asking for. Maybe she(they) will learn to keep their mouths shut and SING.

EXCERCISE your right! By all means! I don't like the freakin dixie chicks! All I am saying is that anyone that saw the stepfather walking these documentary filmmakers directly to the sight of the murders (in a very deep, secluded woods), knowing all of the shortcuts and tricks to getting back there, and heard all of the arrogant-almost hints that he had something to do with it, would not be defending this man! Guess what... there are police in little backwood towns that cover up stuff to get the outcasts out of there. Please do not accuse me of telling someone not to excercise their rights... we will have enough of that coming in the next four years... LOL

OMG people, give it up. The chicks can say what ever they please, its called the first amendment. And as far as the comment that was made about the ol pres bushy britches, hell she was right, and you all know it.. So give it up, there are alot of people out there including myself that still rock out to their music! I for one am proud to say it, and have the "hang downs" to even say so!! If ya dont like it, I have 2 suggestions for ya, #1 GET OVER IT, and #2, don't read the articles about em' if ya dont like em'!!!! EVERYONE SING W/ ME, THERE'S YA TROUBLE, THERE'S YA TROUBLE!!! muah

The Dixie Chumps are losers. Enough said!

Dear u, Yes, I am truly special. At least I have the intestinal fortitude A.K.A. (guts) to use my name. I agree with freedom of speech. As I said along with this freedom comes responcibility. If there needs to be someone else investigated then by all means do so and put the right killer or killers behind bars. You just can't run your mouth against someone in a derogatory manner without some one taking offence. Maybe this will cause the police to look a little closer to the case. As we all know, there are only innocent people in prison.LOL

PLEASE go look this story up. I just did and I'm SHOCKED that they convicted those kids. One is borderline retarded. I'm not convinced the step-dad did it but even a few of the parents don't think those guys are guilty. I despise the Dixie Chicks and wonder why they thought this was something they needed to say, but I don't think those guys did it. Look at the Wikipedia site on the West Memphis Three. I warn you, it's very graphic but there are SOOOOO many things that were done wrong. That police force was AWFUL at best and refused help from the Ark. State Police because they were being investigated for stealing drugs from evidence. The guys convicted are weird to say the least but it seems like the Juvie officer decided who was guilty and they refused to look at any other suspect, including "Mr. Bojangles." They LOST evidence for goodness sake and there was NO DNA of any of the guilty at the scene. Go look it up, you'll be really surprised at what you read.

Hey "Repin the 254 Location: CenTex". The only thing they were right about Bush is thier own opinion. They dont speak for me at all. Even if I didnt like Bush, they STILL would not speak for me. And you need to change your name. You aint REPIN a dang thing in the 254.

Entertainers are paid to entertain. After that entertainment is over they should go away. If they want to be political, then get a radio or tv show and be political. Especially when it is obvious they are clueless about which they speak, which The Dixie Chicks are.

Posted by: John E. Location: Salado, TX on Dec 5, 2008 at 08:54 AM
Some people think they are experts one anything and everything just because they are famous for acting or singing songs and/or playing music. Maybe actors and musicians should just stick to what they know best and keep their mouths shut in public.

Posted by: researcher Location: waco on Dec 5, 2008 at 08:13 AM
After researching this story, it is my opinion (only my opinion) the 3 convicted were a quick fix for a city in mourning and afraid of the truth! There has been no justice for those 3 babies. The Chicks have been known to speak their minds and are an easy target for this "Dad" and his money seeking ways. Maybe he should take a look at the folks prior to the Chicks who have made comments etc and add them to his list for his "defamation" case! Some of those people have said worse things about him....BTW, how can investigators be sooooooo ignorant, when they are supposed to be so intelligent, unless they get something in return?

Posted by: Marlin Location: Texas on Dec 5, 2008 at 08:07 AM
Personally I haven't listened to anything (including the older country songs) the Dixie Chicks put out since they bashed the President in London. They have the 1st Amendment right to say what they want to, and I have the right to refuse to listen or buy anything they put out. That's how it works politically. However, these three went and stated that an unconvicted man DEFINATELY DID A MURDER, which is more than an opinion. It is slander. The man has never been charged, never convicted. Therefore under the law, he is innocent. If he's guilty of murder he'd have a conviction under the law. That's how it works. The Dixie Chicks have stated he is guilty, therefore the right thing to do is for them to go to court and prove it, which is why the man is sueing them. If they can't prove his guilt, then they need to SHUT UP. Any of us would do the same thing if accused by someone of murder or any other crime to prove our innocence. I say go for it, nail them to the wall. Maybe they'll learn?

To Heather, Renee and Micky - Your right, everyone has the right to free speech. And those of us that dont like the Dixie Chicks are exercising ours, whether you like what we say or not. Get over yourselves.

Posted by: Ten Location: Temple on Dec 5, 2008 at 07:10 AM
Making profit on other peoples pain. Hmmm. People buy it... That would be an easy fix...now wouldn't it?

Posted by: i said it Location: waco,tx on Dec 4, 2008 at 11:52 PM
Who gives a crap. If the Dixie Chicks weren't trying to sing, they would probablybe working at a dscount or convenience store. Like susiebw said, people get a little famous and they think all of a suddent they are smarter than everybody else.

Posted by: just asking on Dec 4, 2008 at 11:01 PM
asks innocently what scrum is and if the dixie chicks are does as in deer? lol

Posted by: Heather Location: Waco on Dec 4, 2008 at 10:00 PM
There are several bands and celebrities that support the kids that are in jail for this. Like I said in the first comment I left... I don't even like the Dixie Chicks, but before you start trashing them, you should at least look the story up... believe me it is worth the effort. HBO did a documentary on this. I have been following this story for at least 8 years now, and it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out who the real killer is. Renee is right. The kid on death row is running out of time, and he IS innocent!!!! Also, the last time I checked, EVERYONE has their right to speak their minds!

Posted by: mickey Location: killeen on Dec 4, 2008 at 07:30 PM
I have to agree with Renee and Heather on this. The stepfather should have been fully investigated, just pathetic this story is. You people cast stones on ANYTHING the media tells you to. Do your "homework" before mouthing off about something you obviously know nothing about.

Posted by: are u Location: serious on Dec 4, 2008 at 07:24 PM
Who cares what she said...freedom of speech. And to the poor soul who said she turns the radio off when the chicks come on...Wow...you are truly special..lol

Posted by: Patriot Location: Texas on Dec 4, 2008 at 07:03 PM
Natalie Maines has less brain mass than Paris Hilton but a bigger mouth. Just another piece of trash that never knows when to shut up.

Posted by: anonymous Location: Austin on Dec 4, 2008 at 05:59 PM
Our Presdident is precious Joe. Much better than Obama. And it isn't up to the Dixie Chicks to be so political as they need to do what they do best "sing". If they want a job in the whitehouse, now's the time to get in with the "star" you elected.

Posted by: L Location: Killeen on Dec 4, 2008 at 05:03 PM
Who are the Dixie Chicks[= I do believe it was this month in the 1790's that the First Amendment and the Bill of Rights were adopted. May the children rest in peace, may justice be served. - LC, 14

Posted by: Joe Location: Waco on Dec 4, 2008 at 04:10 PM
Once again the Dixie trash doe it again, why would anyone defend this scrum!!!!

Posted by: Renee on Dec 4, 2008 at 02:40 PM
If anyone would bother to look up the information on the case, instead of immediately jumping all over Natalie Maines, they would see that there is evidence to support that the stepfather could have committed the crime, yet he was never properly investigated. There is a man on death row for these murders, without a shred of evidence against him, and he's running out of appeals and time. Time to get over the comments Natalie Maines made about your precious president. Most people now realize she was right all along.

If you dont know the difference between what she did and what SNL does, then no explanation will help. Im sick of actors, actresses and singers using their fame as a soapbox. Its one thing for Bono to donate so much of his time and energy for causes and I dont even mind him asking for help, its when they rant and rave, especially in the political arena that bugs me. Would I have been so hacked if she had bashed Gore or Kerry? Yeah, I would. Dont slam someone elses ideas if you have none better and if yours are better, then run for office and do something about it. If you dont have a better idea and are too lazy or selfish to run, then shut up. And I have the same right to speak against them as anyone has to defend them. Now I dont know enough about this case to have an opinion on the stepfather but if he is truly innocent then I am behind him 100% in this case.

this is just another case of somebody trying to get rich off somebody else...i agree with the first comment. and why was such a big deal made when natalie mouthed off about the president when people do it all the time on tv? Have any of you ever seen saturday night live? And no i don't agree with bad mouthing the president of the usa,but what made it so much worse when she did it?

plese use words we can understand

Posted by: Heather Location: Waco on Dec 4, 2008 at 12:04 PM
First... I am not a Dixie Chicks fan. Please go read about the "West Memphis Three"... I think the stepfather did it. Anyone with half a brain will think that the stepfather did it. The whole story behind the murder is insane, and if you ever watch the documentary about it, you will see that the stepfather is guilty.

Hope he succeeds, that's a terrible thing to put a parent through. The chicks think they are Hollywood stars I guess, telling everybody else how to think and vote, like normal people don't have enough sense.

Posted by: susiebw Location: kempner on Dec 4, 2008 at 11:21 AM
She is such a brainless hussy! I don't understand why, but when people get a little famous they begin to think they are smarter than everyone else, and the whole world is waiting breathlessly to hear their pronouncements, judgements, opinions, etc. They really aren't that good, they just show alot of skin!

Posted by: Sue Location: Waco on Dec 4, 2008 at 11:17 AM
Good never did like the Dixie Chicks anyway.

Posted by: stephanie Location: groesbeck on Dec 4, 2008 at 11:04 AM
She just doesn't know when to keep her mouth shut. I quit listening to them after she mouthed off about Pres. Bush in London. I even go so far as to turn off the radio if one of their songs comes on. I know we have freedom of speech and all but along with this freedom comes responcibilty and with this come consiquencesif you tick some one off.Being famous doesn't give carte blanche to lowrate some one. Maybe the investigators should talk to her and find out if she knows anything.

With a bull's eye on their back on account of their past, you'd think these persons would choose to suffer lockjaw instead of proving their ignorance.
