(December 4, 2008)—Gas prices continued to tumble this week in Central Texas and around the state.
AAA-Texas said Thursday the average priced of a gallon of regular unleaded is $1.69, down 6 cents compared to last week.
Nationwide, the average price dropped 8 cents to $1.78 a gallon.
AAA Texas says gasoline prices this week are about $1.20 less than one year ago.
Amarillo has the least expensive gasoline, at $1.57 per gallon.
The association's survey found the most expensive gas in El Paso where motorists are paying an average of $1.80, which is down 12 cents from last week.
In Central Texas, prices ranged from as little as $1.51 a gallon at one station in Waco to as much as $1.73 a gallon at another Waco station, according to Texasgasprices.com, whose Web site shows one station in Temple charging as little as $1.59 a gallon and a station in Killeen charging as little as $1.64 a gallon.
“As the price of oil continues to fall, motorists are reaping the benefit in the form of dramatically lower prices," said AAA-Texas spokesperson Sarah Schimmer.
"There's no way to know how low they will go, but obviously labor, manufacturing, shipping costs and taxes will still be passed along to drivers in the cost of gas,” she said.
