Texas Gas Prices
Gas Prices: How Low Will They Go? Save Email Print

A | A | A

(December 4, 2008)—Gas prices continued to tumble this week in Central Texas and around the state.

AAA-Texas said Thursday the average priced of a gallon of regular unleaded is $1.69, down 6 cents compared to last week.

Nationwide, the average price dropped 8 cents to $1.78 a gallon.

AAA Texas says gasoline prices this week are about $1.20 less than one year ago.

Amarillo has the least expensive gasoline, at $1.57 per gallon.

The association's survey found the most expensive gas in El Paso where motorists are paying an average of $1.80, which is down 12 cents from last week.

In Central Texas, prices ranged from as little as $1.51 a gallon at one station in Waco to as much as $1.73 a gallon at another Waco station, according to Texasgasprices.com, whose Web site shows one station in Temple charging as little as $1.59 a gallon and a station in Killeen charging as little as $1.64 a gallon.

“As the price of oil continues to fall, motorists are reaping the benefit in the form of dramatically lower prices," said AAA-Texas spokesperson Sarah Schimmer.

"There's no way to know how low they will go, but obviously labor, manufacturing, shipping costs and taxes will still be passed along to drivers in the cost of gas,” she said.

Funny that those that were blaming Bush for high gas prices don't give him credit for low gas prices. Can't have it both ways people!!

Hey everyone, your wasting your breath arguing with someone like Frank. He has to blame others for his lack of success in life. Its like a story my pappy said about wrestling a pig in mud.

I don't care whose in the white house, so long as they keep gas prices where they are. I wouldn't complain if they stayed @ this price forever. It now costs ~$40 to fill my Tahoe and ~$20 to fill my Acura, as opposed to $80 $40 just 3 - 4 months ago!

It was the Bush corporate cronies that started speculating in the oil market and drove the prices up. Once the SEC got involved and shut them down, the price of oil started dropping like a rock. Don't get used to it though. It won't stay low forever. Whatever you were doing to conserve, keep doing it. Ladies, that means stop driving 70 to 80 MPH on Lake Shore Drive with your ear stuck to a cell phone. The speed limit is 40, 50, and 60 depending on which part of the road you are on.

Please. Bush and the Republicans have nothing to do with it. It's all rampant speculators that drove up the prices. I'm scared that now because prices are so low, this gives Democrats all the power to add a bunch of environmental taxes to gas, so that once prices spike again due to speculation, we will be paying $6 a gallon instead of $4. Wait and see.

I dont care how low the gas goes as long as it stays there for a long time to come. There is no reason for the CEO's to be making billions and retiring with multi-millions. It's time we the American people got alittle relief from soaring prices across the board. I want money in MY pocket for a change.

I for one believe it will get back to $3.00 a gallon and balance out there. A lot of people are gonna buy into this cheap gas, buy gas guzzling trucks and suvs, and get stuck with them when the gas goes back to $3-$4.00 a gallon. The time for hybrid cars is now. When you Porsche working on a battery powered car, you know times have changed.

The reason gas is so low is because world wide demand is down. Simple supply and demand. It has nothing to do with Bush or anything else.

$1.53 at Valero on South Valley Mills Drive!!!!

Once Bush leaves the whitehouse, it will go back down to where it belongs. We will not see $100/bbl crude for years unless another republican weasels into the whitehouse.

I'm enjoying it while it last *l*

Posted by: anon Location: Temple on Dec 5, 2008 at 01:23 PM
A couple days ago the gas here in Temple was $1.55 at a couple stations. Not sure what it is now though. It's nice to see it low, for however long it lasts. I like having to squeeze $40 into my Expedition when it took $90 a year ago. :)

John you are correct! Personally I think it should keep dropping till its so low, they pay US 3 dollars a gallon to pump it...lol

Oil is going back to where it should have been all along. Those responsible for the crude price runnaway ought to be thrown in prison. Merrill analysts say that crude will stay around $43/bbl. But the economy is still on a long downhill slide. China's economic boom helped to escalate prices in the past. The predicted GDP is unrealistic for China. They too will falter because USA is no longer economically able to consume massive imports of their cheap junk. Therefore China's economy will also dwindle along with their demands of petro. Crude will drop back under $30/bbl and not see $100/bbl for several years unless we get another republican in the whitehouse.

There should be no question that the price of gas is tied to the commodities market. As soon as the stock market fell so did the price of gas. All of the bull about hurricanes in the gulf, OPEC and world calamities is just that. BULL. Consumers foot the bill for the players in the market. Capitalism, our economic system is supposed to be based on supply and demand; not speculation in the commodities market.
