(August 14, 2006)—President Bush returned to Washington, D.C. Sunday after an abbreviated August vacation at his Central Texas ranch, leaving behind the scorching heat and about a hundred anti-war protesters who plan to remain in the area through the rest of the month.

Among them is Cindy Sheehan, who was released from the hospital Sunday, after she was admitted Friday evening, suffering from exhaustion and dehydration.

The activists are hoping the end of President Bush's ranch vacation doesn't hurt attendance at their protests.

They urged those who oppose the war in Iraq to keep coming the rest of this summer to the 5-acre campsite that Cindy Sheehan purchased last month.

Sheehan resumed her protest a week ago.

Sheehan's first trek to the one-stoplight town last August during Bush's month-long vacation turned into a 26-day vigil that drew more than 10,000 people and spurred counter-protests by Bush supporters.

A few hundred war opponents returned at Thanksgiving, when Mr. Bush was at his ranch, and again in April, the president's first Easter away from Crawford.

On Monday, only about 100 protesters were camped on the Sheehan property, but they hope to increase their numbers.

White House spokesman David Almacy says the president's schedule was not affected by the protesters' presence.

He says US soldiers are fighting in Iraq to give the Iraqi people the freedom that Crawford protestors are exercising.

The protest is to continue through Sept. 3 at Sheehan's land, named "Camp Casey" for her oldest son who was killed in Iraq in 2004 while serving with Fort Hood’s 1st Cavalry Division.
