(December 22, 2008)—Plans were announced Monday for a new multi-screen theater complex in Copperas Cove that will combine film and a restaurant menu that includes beer and wine.

The complex will be housed in a 40,000-square-foot spec building at 402 Constitution Drive south of the Walmart Supercenter that the Copperas Cove Economic Development Corporation sold $1.5 million to Cinergy Cinemas, Ltd.

The new owner’s plans call for eight stadium-style movie theaters with a total of 1,250 seats, a two-story 3,350-square foot laser tag arena, a game arcade and a state-of-the-art kitchen and concession stand that will sell everything from pizza to sandwiches to chicken fingers to wraps and appetizers.

Work should start shortly after the first of the year and the $7 million complex should be open by summer.

It will employ about 50.

"This exciting project has been a difficult six years in the making and it has been a trying period full of doubt and confusion,” said Jerry Conner, executive director of the CCEDC.

“This project is the successful culmination of our efforts and will spin off more entertainment, retail and restaurants to come to Copperas Cove,” he said.

According to WFAA-Dallas, the building was built several years ago, but sitting empty, and the new owner(man and wife from Dallas) gave 1.5 million, and it will 'not' open until the end of the Summer next year!! It sounds like a waste of time and money!!!

WOW! What better time to build and be excited about a high-end, over-priced movie theater?!? Why don't they put that $7 million towards something more useful like bailing out some greedy union autoworker or banking CEO? (kidding of course!)
