(December 29, 2008)—So much for all that preseason Super Bowl hype; America's Team now heads back to Dallas to polish up its golf game.

With a playoff berth on the line, the Dallas Cowboys were blown out by the Philadelphia Eagles in a 44-6 loss.

Philadelphia scored first with a field goal during their second possession.

The Cowboys would then tie it up in the next drive -- the longest possession of the night for Dallas -- which began at the 20-yard-line.

In the second quarter, third-and-seven, Donovan McNabb steps up and eludes pressure, passes to Correll Buckhalter who would take it 59 yards to the Dallas 6.

Donovan McNabb would later pass it four yards to Corell Buckhalter for a touchdown: 17-3 Eagles

Second-and-five, Tony Romo throws left off his back leg; the pass was intended for Roy Williams but it was picked off by Sheldon Brown.

On ensuing possession, Donovan McNabb faked a handoff, rolled right and found Brent Celek in right corner of end zone for one yard touchdown; 24-3 Eagles.

In the third quarter, Tony Romo was hit by Brian Dawkins as he threw, Chris Clemons picked up the ball and ran it back 73 yards for touchdown; 34-3 Eagles.

First and ten, Cowboys at the Eagles 12, Tony Romo completes to Marion Barber who gets hit by Brian Dawkins inside 5 yd line. Barber fumbled and Joselio Hanson returned it 96 yards for td; 41-3 Eagles.

Philadelphia would go on to win the game 44-6; the Eagles finish 9-6-1, get a wild card and live to play another week at NFC North champion Minnesota next weekend.

The Cowboys finish the season 9-7 and again fail to make playoffs.

Dallas moves into its new $1.1 billion, 100,000-seat stadium next season to begin its thirteenth season since the team has seen a playoff win.

get rid of the so called superstars. Get someone in their who wants to play. Also they need someone with a back bone to clean up the team, too many conflicts this year. Drugs, fights, ect. And players thinking they could do a better job running the plays then the coaches, oh that was TO for you winning again. Go Patriots. Never have been a Cowboy fan and never will be.

Who cares? I certainly don't. There are more important things in life besides football (and yes, I am not from Texas). We need to stop worshiping these overpaid, steriod-using thugs.

Posted by: B Location: Waco on Dec 30, 2008 at 02:03 PM
WAY TO GO COWBOYS! Americas team left when they ousted Landry. Arrests, drugs, bad attitude, lack of committment. Landry would not have put up with it nor would he have allowed them back on the team. They need to lower the ticket and food prices so that families can afford the outing. Cut all salaries and pay on a scale of how they played. If they would play for the love of it then every game would be do or die. But then according to Sundays game we have a team of dead people.

Wade is too much of a softy. We have so much talent in the cowboys but no discipline. We could be so lucky as to get someone like bill cowher. I think it is time to replace Romo. He just does not seem to care at all.

Well...it was a hard game to watch. I agree with all the comments regarding Jerry. He needs to stay the hell out of coaching and just sign the friggin checks! Oh yeah, I almost forgot...GO TEXANS!!!!!

13 returning pro-bowlers,5 of them on the offensive line, and they can't gain more than two yards up the middle or protect long enough to throw a pass!Talent is not the issue!!!No enthusiasm and no desire is the issue! There seems to be only about 3or4 players on the whole team that care about winning. There's a coach on the sideline that just stands there with his hands on his hips shaking his head.LIGHT A FIRE UNDER THEIR BUTTS!!!!!!!The Boys haven't had a real coach since Jimmy! When Jimmy started,he said "nobody here is assured of a job except me and Troy! The players had to earn their spot or they were gone. What happened to that theory?I have been a Cowboy's fan since the beginning of the franchise, but I'm tired of saying maybe next year!I will always be a Cowboy's fan,but something has got to give!

the cowgirls DO NOT deserve a new stadium! Tony NONO and T.O. need to get over themselves!! THEY STINK-UP THE STATE!!!

Posted by: Kris Location: Waco on Dec 30, 2008 at 08:21 AM
Good gracious. Gee wiz. Oh my. That was a baaaaad game. Thank goodness my boyfriend didn't think I was a jinx. (No, I'm not Jessica Simpson) While I am a fan, it appeared to me the 'boys didnt want to win. Ya'll make not like me for saying this, but a team that plays that badly deserves no playoff advance, much less a Super Bowl. Lots of changes are needed before this should happen. All I have to say now is HOOK EM HORNS!!! Whoo!!!

Geez, I only read the post from 'dmg' from Waco and have to say you have said what I have been saying for years. The reason I quit watching football and the reason I laugh at the failure of the Cowboys is that lowlife owner who thinks that money buys everything. Well, it has proven that while money does buy ALOT, it does NOT buy the respect and admiration of real true loyal Cowboy or football fans. That team deserves to lose because of the idiot owner. I dont even think I feel bad for the players. I agree, I hope that man goes bankrupt (which he wont, he is prolly smart enough to bet AGAINST his precious 'boys, so he can continue to make a ton of money!)

Jerry Jones was extremely lucky in the early 1990's by catching lightning in a bottle. In reality, he knows nothing about how to run a football team. 12 years without a playoff win is proof. Jones is a billionaire thug trying and failing miserably to buy a winning team. And as long as he signs thugs to the team they will always be losers. Tom Landry is rolling in his grave.

Posted by: dmg Location: waco on Dec 29, 2008 at 10:25 PM
The best thing that could happen for this team is for Jerry Jones to go bankrupt and have to sell the team. The biggest mistake he made was firing Tom Landry. When he did that, I lost respect for him. People need to boycott buying season tickets for the Cowboys and start supporting the Texans. As long as JJ owns the team, he will spend riduculous amounts of money on players with egos too big to fit inside his precious new stadium, and the team will not do any good. There is no comradarie between players. It's just every ego for himself, and they are just drawing a paycheck. JJ and the Cowboy organization should be ASHAMED of their showing this year. Sunday was the icing on the cake.

1) I am still a fan 2) We have won three BECAUSE of Jerry 3) Figure it out and fix it 4) GO COWBOYS !!!!!!

Too bad we can't fire the owner!!!!

Anyone familiar with "The Natural"? When Roy Hobbs hooked up with the blond, he stopped hitting homeruns. Maybe Romo needs to get rid of Jessica!

Posted by: susiebw Location: kempner on Dec 29, 2008 at 03:26 PM
They haven't really been "THE COWBOYS" since Tom Landry was given the hustle. Jerry Jones gets what he deserves.

J JONES ... SELL THE TEAM... SILENT AUCTION..SOMETHING.. SOMEBODY WITH BETTER LEADERSHIP NEEDS TO TAKE CHARGE AND HAVE A WHOLE NEW TEAM.. STARING WITH A NEW OWNER..

Posted by: Ben Location: Robinson on Dec 29, 2008 at 02:11 PM
Jerry Jones is the problem. He thinks getting players like TO and Pacman will help the team and it doesn't. Both of them are cry babies and they only focus on themselves. Jerry Jones needs to step back and let the coach do his job. He is the most self centered person I have ever seen. Facelift and terrible acting on commercials. I can't stand the man and I will never be a Cowboy fan again until he is out of the picture. Go Eagles!

Posted by: J Location: Waco on Dec 29, 2008 at 01:47 PM
It is poor coaching, as this team never looks prepared to play. No discipline from the coaches to the players. Wade is a great defensive coach, but not a head coach. His stint in Buffalo shows as much. All year long there have been stupid mistakes and penalties. The Dallas coaching staff is a joke. Someone call Bill Cowher!! Also, there is ZERO leadership on that team. Tony is a great athlete, but not a leader. I've said from day one he wasnt the long term answer for QB in Dallas.the QB is supposed to be the captain of the team. Roger, Troy, and EVEN Danny White were leaders, Tony is not. It sucks for us die-hard fans to end the year on such a sorry pathetic loss, and then start the new year off without our team playing in January!

Get rid of Jerry Jones problem solved

Posted by: Willie T. Location: Waco on Dec 29, 2008 at 12:38 PM
It all started with camp marshmellow in training camp. Phillips is a joke. The hard knocks show really pumped up Cowboy fans in thinking this was the year the team was going all the way. Boy, were we wrong! Changes better be made in the off-season for this team to do well with all that talent.

Fire Romo!!!!!!!!!

Posted by: F.diggity Location: tx. on Dec 29, 2008 at 11:51 AM
THE BEST THING JERRY CAN DO, IS GET MICHAEL VICK WHEN HE GETS OUT IN JUNE AND GET SOME SECONDARY HELP AND WAIT ON COLT MC COY TO COME OUT OF TEXAS AND THATS WHO WILL TAKE THEM TO THE SUPER BOWL!! 2011 COWBOYS WILL WIN SUPER BOWL WITH COLT MC COY AT QB AND MICHAEL VICK AND ROMO AT BACK UP. YOU GOT 2 DESCENT ALT. WATCH WHAT HAPPENS.JERRY ALREADY SENT VICK A PLAYBOOK TO THE FEDERAL PRISON.

Posted by: K Location: Mexia on Dec 29, 2008 at 11:47 AM
As a Cowboy who bleeds blue and silver, you could just see this coming. I don't know if Romo is the one but he really needs to work on the attitude. Yes it is a game but one that he is paid millions to play, so Romo could we have a little anger or emotions. He should have been so mad he couldn't see straight. His response "its not the worst thing that could happen," true, but concerning you job, Romo, it was. Garrett needs to find a new home (not in Dallas) and Pac Man just needs to carry his punk, no coverage criminal self out of Big D. Come on Jerry, enough already with the criminals. Lack of Leadership on and off the field is the bottom line here. No leadership in the club house and no leadership on the field. Jimmy Johnson where are you, please Jerry can we have Jimmy and coach Joe back pleassssse!!!

How about those cowboys?........hehehe

Posted by: Army Wife Location: killeen on Dec 29, 2008 at 10:08 AM
that was a very bad loss. we need a new coach!

Posted by: Yep Location: Cove on Dec 29, 2008 at 10:01 AM
So why didnt they just throw in the towel? Why kick that last field goal? 44-6 sound THAT much better than 44-3?

Posted by: George Location: clifton,tx on Dec 29, 2008 at 09:58 AM
I heard it put tthe best by a Sports Commentor when he said, "When the Cowboys get tired of loosing, they will start winning." I think there are too many personalities on the team. They don't play like a "team," they play for themselves as individuals. They need a good new rookie QB and bring him along. They have never done that, they just throw them into the mix. They keep recruiting over the hill QBs, as back ups. The defense can only do so much.

Posted by: K Location: Waco on Dec 29, 2008 at 09:50 AM
I'm very disappointed in how the cowboys played. I am not a huge football fan, like my husband, but I do like to watch the cowboys play and this season was just a disappointment. The Cowboys have some of the best talent in the NFL , they're just not using it, someone isn't doing what they're supposed to be doing, i say get rid of Romo , his head is obviously somewhere else(simpson)!!!

Posted by: John E Location: Salado, TX on Dec 29, 2008 at 09:08 AM
Here is the fix: Make Wade Phillips the permanent defensive coordinator. The defense played MUCH better after he started making the defensive calls. Hire Bill Cowher to be the head coach and have him call the offensive plays. Tony Romo is a great quarterback, but he needs time to throw the ball!!! The offensive front line needs a major overhaul. The Dallas cornerbacks are awful and need to be replaced quickly with some TALL, fast cornerbacks.

Posted by: Sandra Location: Temple on Dec 29, 2008 at 09:04 AM
A championship game should be played by two champion teams. The Cowboys have not been champion quality this whole season, so I'm glad they didn't stumble into the playoffs. Now that their season is over, the organization can do some restructuring, and the team members can focus on healing their physical and egotistical wounds. Somewhere along the way, they need to re-learn the concept of "team" instead of "me".

Posted by: Kay Location: Waco on Dec 29, 2008 at 08:59 AM
Who Cares have not liked the Cowboys for quite some time now. I have always be a Houston fan and always will be.

Posted by: LL Location: Lorena on Dec 29, 2008 at 08:50 AM
They did it again. I am ready to burn my cowboy shirts, flag (flown upside down yesterday)and break all my cups. To the person who stole my Cowboy Magnet off my Van @ WalMart I DONOT want it back. I will not watch Fox with Troy & his sidekick anymore. Those guys don't know how to SHUTUP especilly when it is the Cowboys. I finally muted the TV and listened on the Radio. I heard it before I saw it at least I could close my eyes when it was real bad which was most of the game. Oh well I'm ready for BAYLOR BASKETBALL (BOYS & GIRLS)

Posted by: Eve Location: Waco on Dec 29, 2008 at 07:32 AM
I stopped watching after the 3rd qurater was over. Not worth watching the embarrassement.

WIN,LOSE,OR TIE IM A COWBOY FAN TILL I DIE!!! BETTER LUCK NEXT YEAR... GO DALLAS!!Ya are still my boys...

Posted by: Re Location: Waco on Dec 29, 2008 at 01:39 AM
..sigh..I am disappointed as well.Romo needs to go and so does Philips. They threw away the play offs..they didn't give it thier all and it showed in this sad, sad game..Btw Michelle, I love the Texans. They have done a good job this season. All Texas teams have my full support, but we got to get some real players out here.

Posted by: Anonymous on Dec 29, 2008 at 01:30 AM
I think to much blame is being thrown on Wade Phillips. My oppinion is that this is a team of great players that refuse to play as a team. A few key players are more concerned with themselves than the team and that ends badly for everyone. Plus Jessica Simpson has cursed the team since she and Romo got together. Lord help us if they really do get married. I know she's a hometown girl and all, and I like her as a singer and a person. But there's just something about her that's not doing well for our Cowboys.

Posted by: El Diablo Location: Hell on Dec 29, 2008 at 01:26 AM
Wade Phillips doesn't need to be fired. He needs to resign. And Garrett's stock fell further through the floor than the NYSE. They can't rely on the same tired game plan every week...they've been figgered out. They have to shuffle their weapons in different schemes. And poor Romo is too busy believing his Super Bowl previews to focus on his job. Pathetic all around.

Posted by: big t Location: waco on Dec 29, 2008 at 12:51 AM
nobody's fault but JJ telling everybody thier job was secure before the game that really mattered.Fire all the coaches bring in someone who is not afraid of T.O and get this show on the road.Perhapps Bill Cower.

Posted by: bb Location: coryell on Dec 29, 2008 at 12:35 AM
I don't feel that Jones is trying to run the show. I would have to say T.O. is. He is so stuck on hisself. It's all about him. Wake up T.O. it takes more then one person to win a football game.

Posted by: TB Location: CORYELL on Dec 29, 2008 at 12:27 AM
Like the old saying goes "TO MANY CHIEFS AND NOT ENOUGH INDIANS" It has to be a TEAM effort and they DON'T have it!

Posted by: TX SOONER Location: Killeen on Dec 28, 2008 at 11:59 PM
In the back of my mind, I guess I'm still a cowboy fan but ever since Jerry Jones took over, the only thing I see is not only this team is the MONEY in everybodies eyes on the team except some players like Witten. Stop making money the only thing to play for. You take a chance on getting hurt. BE A MAN!!!!!!!

Posted by: lonewolf on Dec 28, 2008 at 11:58 PM
How bout them cowgirls lol

Posted by: Sandra on Dec 28, 2008 at 10:54 PM
I thought the best play of the game was when Jason Witten threw the ball to T.O. Maybe Jason should be the new QB!!!!!

Posted by: trick Location: tx on Dec 28, 2008 at 10:17 PM
Pathetic, the whole bunch needs to be fired including that QB with a quirky smile.

Posted by: Robert Location: McGregor on Dec 28, 2008 at 10:06 PM
How can Jerry Jones say that Wade Phillips is still his coach after sundays game that was one of the worse games of the year is there any leadership on that team even offense coach garrett needs to go or come up with better plays for next year .Is Tony Romo the answer at quarterback it looks like no. So who will go and who will stay for next year ,I think the best thing J JONES can do is sell the team to someone better..

Posted by: Michelle Location: Central TX on Dec 28, 2008 at 09:53 PM
I'm NOT the Cowboy fan in our household, but I am really dissappointed at the way they have been playing as a team. Some re-adjustments are needed for this team to do well next year...I had more fun watching the Texans this year, with two of their players going to the Pro Bowl, who could blame me...
