(December 31, 2008)-- Former Bryan elementary school teacher Bruce Unger, 29, who fled the country after he was charged with six counts of sexual assault of a child and indecency with a child was in custody Wednesday in Brazos County after he was transferred late Tuesday night from New York.

Unger was arrested earlier this month in Ukraine, where authorities said he had been working as an English instructor since November 2007.

According to the Brazos County Sheriff's Office, Unger arrived Tuesday night at 11:45 p.m. and was booked into jail shortly before 1 a.m. Wednesday.

On Tuesday, Brazos County Commissioners approved expenses for two sheriff's deputies to travel to New York to get Unger, who waived extradition.

In Bryan, Unger taught at Neal Elementary, coached at-risk boys soccer and was named "Most Caring Coach" by USA Today in 2005 for the difference he made in the lives of his students.

Unger was arrested in 2006 after allegations surfaced about the sexual abuse of an 11-year-old boy.

Additional charges were filed after two teens stepped forward alleging abuse.

Days before his trial was set to begin in November 2007, Unger fled.

Amen Bill. He should be ordered some counseling and then given a second chance. Everyone makes mistakes. Just because he got overly affectionate, everyone is quick to think he is so evil. Love is what makes the world go round.
