(December 31, 2008) -- A Gatesville man charged in the sexual assault of a Gatesville woman was free on his own recognizance Wednesday.

Rene Perez was being held in the Coryell County Jail on a $50,000 bond set by Coryell County Justice of the Peace Larry McDonald, but a court hearing resulted in his release on personal recognizance.

Police were dispatched to an address in the 100 block of Old Waco Rd. at 3:05 a.m. on Dec. 22, where a woman told officers she had been sexually assaulted.

An arrest warrant was later issued naming Perez.
