(August 21, 2006)—Doctors at the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota implanted a pacemaker in the chest of former President Gerald Ford Monday.
The procedure, which went well according to a statement from the clinic that was e-mailed to CNN, was performed six days after Ford was admitted to the Mayo Clinic for testing and evaluation.
In July Ford, 93, was admitted to a hospital in Vail, Colo. after experiencing shortness of breath.
He was admitted to Eisenhower Medical Center in Rancho Mirage, California, in January for treatment of pneumonia.
The statement reported by CNN indicated Ford was resting comfortably Monday afternoon and would spend several more days in the hospital.
