Two Stabbed In Brawl Outside Local Restaurant

(January 4, 2009)—Waco police are investigating a brawl early Sunday morning outside of a fast food restaurant that sent two people to the hospital with stab wounds.

The fight broke out just before 4:30 a.m. Sunday in the parking lot of the Whataburger at 1528 Hewitt Dr.

Witnesses told officers that several black males wearing what police described as “school shirts from McGregor” were eating in the restaurant when they got into an argument with some white males.

The black males left and then returned with several other people and then the fight broke out in the parking lot.

Juan Castillo, 23, and Adrian Chaires, 17, later turned up in the emergency room of Providence Health Center with stab wounds to the chest that police determined they received in the fight.

The wounds were not life threatening, police said.

Witnesses told officers several other people were injured in the fight.
Other details weren’t immediately available Sunday.

It all started by someone making fun of someones name. I was sitting there the whole time. The "white" males were instigating. I.E. making racial comments and actually picking up a rock and throwing at their car. The people from McGregor should have just left. But they had to leave and circle the restaurant until their backup arrived. The "hispanic" males got out of the car and confronted the "white" males EVEN WHEN THEY HAD NO PART IN THE WHOLE CONFRONTATION IN THE FIRST PLACE. A "hispanic" from McGregor lunged at the "white" male and hit him with a beer can. Therefore leading to the brawl. A "white" male had a knife in his back pocket and saw that his friend was getting beat on and stabbed someone to get him off. The other guy saw he had the knife and actually said "why do you have a weapon?" Therefore leading to him getting stabbed. There is no need for this at anytime. If you can't fight with your fist. THEN DON'T FIGHT AT ALL!

Why are these kids allowed to be out at 4:30AM? Nothing good ever comes out of hanging out all night long. Parents should make their kids mind. Take their driving privileges and their money. Make their butts stay home if they can't be trusted to not get into trouble.

Listen Moms from Mcgregor your sons wouldn't have been stabbed if they wouldn't have brought so many people and didnt use weapons first. you need to talk to your 17 year old son and find out why he was out at 4:30 in the morning, that sounds like bad parenting to me. and to the other guys who TRIED to jump 4 guys yall need to learn how to fight. its pathetic that 16 guys couldn't beat up four guys. And another thing sum of the guys we fought looked like they were in their 30's and got whooped by four 19 year olds. Thats sad.

to the people who are blaming the parents: you can only control your children so much, if you had any children their age you would know and possibly understand more.and to the people saying that these guys are NFL stars in the making: no where in this article says that they were football players, not all football players are the same. NFL, college, or high school....its sad that we always have to associate the good kids with the ones who made bad choices. and for the ones who like to bring race into every situation that occurs: not everything is a racist crime, not everything has to do with the color of someone's skin. do you know how irritating that is to hear on a daily basis? obviously not if we still have incompetent people still making dumb comments about race.

sounds like -MOM in McGregor- knows what really happened...my husband saw all the kids starting to group up and there were no black kids...only whites and hispanics. sounds like some of these kids have a problem with someone in mcgregor and are trying to pin it on the wrong folks. these are kids we're talking about, do you REALLY think this is the TRUE story?!?!

It would be much better for us KWTX if you did not single out people as being "black", "white", or "hispanic"...it doesnt matter if they are victims or one doing the crimes...it divides us as a community and in todays world, we do not need anymore of that. - By the way, I am a young male in Waco. Some of us still do have pride and respect. So to those leaving comments singling out the young crowd. Quit getting your fix off the news websites and get out and see that the world isnt as bad as you make it appear.

i think its really stupid how everyone is blaming it on bad parenting...these "kids" are not kids...they have jobs,cars. they are respectful to their parents. I am 17, will be 18 in 2 months...but does that make me an adult?...no...but do i respect my parents?...yes...do they trust me to make the right decisions?...yes...I go to school with adrian and i hang out with juan. They aren't bad people. Yall dont understand how close i came to having one less person at graduation. Or one more person i have to hang out with. My mother lets me stay out until all hours...i have to been out to eat at 3 or 4 in the morning...its just being in the wrong place at the wrong time. yes these"kids" need to be punished. but i think adrian is punished enough...I would say a failed lung and still in the hospital is punishment enough. and juan has to go to the dr. EVERYDAY to get checked up on because they stabbed his liver. They got their punishment...NOW when are the others going to get theirs?....

The first to bring race into this discussion was someone complaining about the use of the word THUG. There was never any mention of black/white/hispanic until someone cried over that word. There are THUGS of ALL RACES. And any parent who lets their child be out at 4:30 in the morning is STUPID. I don't care how much you say they are "good people."

It happened on Hewitt Dr., but it is Waco (really screwed-up city boundaries). Since the story left out most names and ages, I can safely make a guess that they were mostly minors. WHY WERE THEY OUT AT THIS HOUR? 10 OR MORE MILES FROM HOME? IF these "kids" ..."left to get their ride home"...why did they come back? Once again...someone is playing a race card and making their own story out of the truth....WHOMEVER was involved (white, black, brown, green, red or any combination) should be held accountable....regardless which town they are from, which town they were in or which color their skin is!! STOP EGGING ON THE RACE CRAP!!

I guess you were there in middle of that fight since you know all the details. According to officers, there where witnesses that said the McGregor boys left and came back with more thugs. listen the mexican and black guys started the fight by hitting my buddy, i was there. The fight was 16 on 4, tell me thats a fair fight those Mcgregor guys were afraid to fight one on one so they had to go get 12 more people to help them jump us they were the first ones to use weapons i got hit in the head with a full can of beer, and my buddy got hit and almost stabbed with a beer bottle. but we did wat we had to do to defend ourselves.

Most everyone on here is ragging on the McGregor kids. It was the white kids that started the fight that pulled a knife and stabbed the hispanic young men. I know the mcgregor kids parents and they are very good people and very responsible people. The thugs were the white kids that know they will get away with it because of their color. Believe me that's how it always goes. and yes I am a white mom in Mcgregor! This story is biased and making it all like the mcgregor kids went and got help. They went to get their ride home!

Why is this Obama's fault? He is not these kids parents, nor was he in their lives to tell them not to fight. The problem is kids out all hours of the night, able to do anything without consequences. We as parents need to start or keep teaching our kids that they will suffer the consequences of their actions. If that means that you get in stupid things after certain hours, and have to go to jail, so what. I think that it has nothing too do with race or color, just plain how they were raised. If we look at the other story a white kid was shot by another white kid. It may have been an accident, but they should have been taught gun safety and that a gun is not a toy, but a tool for protection. It is not about the colorof our skin, but how children are raised. The bible says train up a child so that when it is older he will not depart from it.

I have worked in schools for last five years and the problem is NO PARENTING OF TEENAGERS. Even supposedly good kids and good parents do not have curfews. Kids roam around all night all the time, even on schools nights and cannot stay awake during the day. When they turn 16 they get a car and no rules and an endless supply of money. Our society is in BIG TROUBLE
