(January 11, 2009)—Donald Lee Sexton, 60, of College Station is among the dead after a fiery accident that claimed five lives and left two others injured.

Authorities say excessive speed was the likely cause of the fiery collision between a car and a van Saturday in Southeast Texas.

Authorities say a Chevrolet Cobalt was traveling at “an extremely high rate of speed” Saturday when it collided with a Toyota van.

Four of the five family members traveling in the van were killed.

They were identified as Sexton, Curtis Charles Edwards, 78, of Pinehurst, Catherine C. Edwards, 83, and Lloyd Alvin Edwards, 83, of Salina, Okla.

Karla Kay Sexton, 59, of College Station was also a passenger in the van.

Kayla Pratorius, 18, of Magnolia, who was a front-seat passenger in the Cobalt, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Cobalt, Brandon Lee Ferguson, 22, of Magnolia, remained hospitalized Sunday.

Department of Public Safety Sgt. Angela Fountain said the investigation is ongoing.

Investigators are trying to determine the Cobalt's speed at the time of impact, Fountain said.

This is sure a hard way for some people to learn a final lesson in life. SPEED KILLS!!! But the driver of the car hasn't learned it yet???? Prayers for those who lost their lives.

yes, I agree, SPEED KILLS, and let them race at a raceway if they want to drive that fast. Of Course, some people never learn! The highway is NOT A RACEWAY! He should be punished for him causing 2 deaths but you should always wear a seatbelt. WHAT ABOUT THE STRICT SEATBELT LAWS we have in Texas?????

Slow down!!! I have no remorse for those that have no respect for all of us that are on the roads also. I hope this family can find peace in this horrible time. Remember that all things happen for a reason and God doesn't give us more than we can handle. Let this be a lesson to all those that speed, race and have no consideration for everyone else that may be on the road. Think about how you would feel if that was your family that was killed due to someone else's negligence.
