(January 11, 2009) - Former GOP gubernatorial candidate Carole Keeton Strayhorn plans to announce her candidacy for Austin mayor Monday.

Strayhorn, 69 years old, served as Austin's first woman mayor from 1977 to 1983.

She first started her political career as a Democrat but switched to the GOP before her election to the Texas Railroad Commission and later comptroller.

Strayhorn ran for governor as an independent candidate in 2006 use the self-described slogan, "one tough grandma."

The former mayor's campaign coordinator says Strayhorn will explain her reason for running for mayor again, Monday.

I hope she gets elected! I would vote for her if I lived in Austin!!!I would also try and help her with her Campaign!!!!!!
