(January 13, 2009)--A district court jury in Fort Worth has convicted a Hurricane Katrina evacuee of capital murder in the shooting death of a drug dealer.
Joemar Jackson was convicted in the June 2007 robbery and slaying of Eric Witt, 29.
Jackson will serve life in prison with no possibility of parole.
Prosecutors did not seek the death penalty.
Two of Jackson's co-defendants pleaded guilty and were given lighter sentences in exchange for their testimony against Jackson.
The third hasn't yet been tried.
Katrina made landfall in August 2005.

Not a suprise...the dealers, addicts, and gang bangers from New Orleans came to Texas remember? They never went back to their "Hood" either. To "SOMEONE Location NEAR HERE"... Houston's crime rate SPIKED 33 percent instantly when the Katrina evacuees were taken to the Astrodome. Even New Orleans' mayor told them to not come back if they were criminals, and about half were prior drug convicts! He wanted a fresh start. Yet, they started dealing and killing just like they did in New Orleans. Want to know what my sources are? The state's DPS (Rangers) who track crime statistics. Personally I wish that Houston's DA had gone for the death penalty. That would have made the score Good guys 2, Bad guys 0.... As it is, this clown will be in prison for about 30 or 40 years at our expense. A bullet or needle full of poison is a whole lot cheaper! Maybe we ought to charge Mayor Ray Nagin for his citizen's upkeep? Still, the result is Bad Guys off the street 2, which is a good thing.

To: Anonymous Location: TX ....... Yeah he did a favor by getting rid of a drug dealer, but you fail to realize that he probably shot the dealer because he sold him some bad crack or didn't want to pay for it, he's no better than the dealer he shot.
