JONES CREEK, Texas (January 21, 2009)—Someone has stolen a memorial that topped the grave of a 21-year-old Texas soldier who was killed in Iraq in 2006.

Last week, thieves hauled away a battle cross created for Cody Ford's grave in Jones Creek, his bronzed jump boots, bronzed assault rife and a bronzed helmet like the one he wore in Iraq.

Authorities say even the bronzed base that supported the battle cross in Gulf Prairie Cemetery was stolen.

The bronzed boots are the same jump boots that Ford, a U.S. Army specialist and member of the 3rd Battalion, 509th Infantry (Airborne), wore when he graduated from paratrooper school.

Brazoria County Sheriff's Capt. Chris Kincheloe said the vandals could face charges of felony theft and misdemeanor desecration of a venerated object.

Ford was one of three soldiers who died on Dec. 10, 2006 when a homemade bomb detonated near their Humvee in Baghdad.

He was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 509th Infantry (Airborne), 4th Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division, from Fort Richardson, Alaska.

What low-lifes. They need to be found, beaten severly, and thrown in jail for a long time.

When you find these low-life pieces of trash, throw the book at them and then send them to fight in IRAQ. If they live they can spend the rest of their sorry lives scratching out a life in IRAQ. Maybe then they will appreciate how good they have it here. I am sickened!
